I suppose we would all love it if our children followed our teachings.

However, I know enough children of good parents to know that children have a mind of their own, even children who are good Christians and come from good Christian families.

It’s a shame that the poor girl has to go through this publicly. Now we’ll here the democrats say how selfish Palin was to put her daughter through this — when in fact it was their own blood-sucking supporters who pushed this.

On the other hand, the world would have known in 4 months anyway — it wasn’t the kind of secret you take to the grave, unless you are Barack Obama making sure your children aren’t punished with children.

I’m finding more often than not, the kids don’t follow our teachings.

Did you know that Benjamin Franklin couldn’t convince his own son to join the revolution. The kid remained loyal to the king to the end.

Excellent comment. I’ve seen it happen in my own family and with some friends of mine.

I have a niece who got pregnant at 16 by a much older man BTW. At the time, I did hold her parents, who are very conservative politically and are devout Roman Catholics, accountable for not seeing the dangers of their young daughter’s relationship with an older man but then she and the father were in love at the time and there was little to be done to stop them and they did get married and he took responsibility for the child as did she.

Although the marriage didn’t last, in the end my great niece just turned 15 and she is a lovely, intelligent and thoughtful young woman who has a very good head on her young shoulders and is not likely to make the same mistake. She is a straight A honor student since the first grade, a talented musician and a budding young writer who won both an American Legion and VFW essay contest on Patriotism who wants to get a degree in biology and have a career in medical research to as she’s said, “find ethical and scientifically sound ways to save lives”. We can all be very glad that her parents and her grandparents and the rest of her family, never saw her has “a burden” to be aborted and thrown away for the sake of convince.

My niece is now happily re-married and she gave birth to triplets in March. Her first OBY tried repeatedly to convince her and her husband to have the “selective reduction”, i.e. abortion/murder of two of the babies because it was a very risky pregnancy given that she and her husband had just had a baby the previous April (and they were practicing both natural family planning and using condoms both times for good measure)and because the doctor was not experienced enough to want to handle it. I’m glad to say that they quickly found a new doctor, a specialist in high risk pregnancies and today I have three more beautiful, healthy and much loved great nieces for a total of five beautiful girls who did not end up as “medical waste”.

My best friend got pregnant before marriage in her early twenties. She was a bit of a wild child back then but the father was and is still is a very good guy from a very good family and is very conservative in his politics and is a deeply religious traditional Roman Catholic. They were in love and while she had a bit of a past, he did not, but passion got the better of them both. They got married and while his family did disown him for a short time, they had three more beautiful children together and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. My friend long since stopped being a wild child, converted to Catholicism and is now a very traditional stay at home mom and a lot more conservative in her opinions these days.

I have a good friend at work who is a strong, conservative Evangelical Christian who raised her three daughters in that same mold. Her oldest daughter right after HS ran away to elope with her boyfriend because she was pregnant and didn’t want her parents to know. Recently my friend told me that her grand daughter at 16 was pregnant. While neither she or her daughter were happy about the circumstances, they both support her in having the baby and will do whatever they can to make sure the child is born and loved and raised the best way possible and the father has also stepped up to the plate.

If anything this has made Sarah Palin even more admirable in my eyes. A mother making the right decision to not abort her downs syndrome child and as a mother who supports her daughter in making the only right choice.
