ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

They can’t, and the mental gymnastics engaged in producing this thread and the responses thereto - well, the mind boggles.

I hate to think that my husband is correct in saying that each party has its own fair share of hypocrites. I really thought better of conservatives than that.

The only thing I worry about is those “without sin” voters who sat on their hands in 2000 after hearing about Bushs’ 20 yr old DUI. But other than that I wonder how many people can honestly say they haven’t had a teenage pregnancy in their family or someone they are close to.

How does it do that, exactly? One can bear children serially.

She is 5 months pregnant....do the math.

I’m sorry I do not agree with majority of posters. Teen pregnancy is NOT ok. And parents have to bare most of the responsibility. I’m NOT OK with this one little bit. This is another mccain flub-up

Respectfully, I will disagree with some of your comments.

Caring parents, strong roots in the community (e.g. church, etc),can all help a young person maker the right choices. Unfortunately, sometimes children do not make the right choices. Period.

It's what is done now that is important. If both father and mother of this baby step up to the plate and take responsibility for this child and raise the child, than this will be good.

But let's remember just how nasty this political campaign has gotten in just 3 days. The 17 year old daughter of a VP nominee was pilloried as being pregnant and the mother accused of faking her own pregnancy as part of a cover-up. This is a symptom of why some people are so cynical of the "win at all costs" mentality of not only some Dems, but also of some Repubs. I just listened to the Ed Schultz show and Mr. Schultz was making comments about Bristol being "knocked up". Pathetic - and Ed Schultz makes no bones about being one of those who is committed to the Dems of winning at all costs.

This is really sad - the ravaging of a nominee's FAMILY by the media. Very, very sad.

I think if they attack this will really really work against them with. Attacking a kid, attacking a single mom, attacking a teen mom. and attacking someone who stood up and kept their baby. there are many in the middle that this will reach..the problem is they don’t get it. The left does not understand middle america and this only highlights it.

Indeed FRiend. My girlfriend, who is rather none political, related instantly to this......she is now STRONGLY for Palin. In her words, "this is a family issue", if they attack on this the dems are hosed....

Not in my circle. Where I come from, marriage predates pregnancy.

I don’t care one twit what Obama says. Teen pregnancy is NOT OK and if your kid gets pregnant you are not doing your job. Sorry that is the way I feel. People need to keep their pants on until they can handle the responsibility and it is up to parents to teach this.

Mistake? YOu make it sound like a plague, or that she got caught shoplifting. She had sex, a bit early, but it was sex. Now she is having a baby, this is how babies are made. For goodness sakes, get over it.

“I haven’t been thrilled with this pick but he was vetting the mother and not the daughter. Just because her daughter chose to be irresponsible and have (possibly unprotected) sex before marriage doesn’t mean that those were the values the mother taught. Sometimes great parents breed kids who behave poorly.”

Just a little humorous point: whether there was equipment failure or omission, if someone gets pregnant, the sex sure wasn’t protected!

The earth, and especially the U.S., is overpopulated as it is.

You have got to be kidding me. Take a tour of the Western states of the USA. They are EMPTY. Alaska ... same latitude as Russia .. practically EMPTY.

We have PLENTY of room for more population.

Eastern Nevada makes West Texas look CROWDED

I also agree.

>>True conservatives are going to accept this woman who has done everything right by encouraging her daughter to do the right thing.<<

Did she ever, by chance, encourage her daughter to WAIT UNTIL MARRIAGE before getting knocked up?

Liberals cringe from innocence.

Babies remind them of innocence, that there are consequences to actions, and that we are sometimes called to sacrifice our wants for the needs of others.

Liberals prefer living selfishly without accepting responsibility for their own actions.

It is easer for them to call good evil, and evil good.

So, baby-killers are “good” because they “rescue” women from babies, and they call women who let their imperfect children live “bad” because they don’t kill the babies to put them out of the misery the liberals imagine they must be in.

According to Obama she’s being punished with a child.

According to the RINOs the Republican Party is being punished with this one.

“What? Are you kidding me? They weren’t going to say anything. They were going to try and hide this as long as possible or they would have announced it months ago.

Palin should quit the VP thing and try to get her family squared away.”

How do you know what they were going to do ?
What do you mean “get her family squared away” ?

??????????

And when the United States collapses under the weight of dysgenic fertility, it will be people like the child in Bristol Palin's womb who will have to assume the burden of leading humanity through the coming Dark Ages and trying to reconstruct some semblance of a civilization.,

Facts are stubborn things. Since 1970 the population of the US has increased by 100 million, making the US the third most populous nation on earth. By 2060, we will have added another 167 million more to our population raising our population to nearly half a billion. Since 2000, we have added 23 million people or the equivalent of the current population of Texas.

The world adds 57 million people a year and will continue to do so until at least 2050. Who decides what is dysgenic?

Why care? Do you really think this is going to change the minds of voters? If anything, it again goes to show Governor Palin is a “normal” American.

In reference to all the new posters I've never heard of who are so critical of the Governor because of this family matter, go back to your DK or Huff Post. There your values and opinions will be appreciated.
