O’FALLON — John McCain presented his new vice-presidential running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to thousands of cheering Missouri supporters at a sun-drenched Sunday afternoon rally at the home of St. Charles County’s minor league baseball team.

“I have found the right partner,” the Arizona senator said at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. “She’s exactly who I need. She’s exactly what the country needs to fight the same old Washington politics.

Many in the crowd, which the campaign estimated at 23,000, seemed to agree, breaking out at one point in a chant of “Sar-uh, Sar-uh.”

I hope McCain quickly comes to terms with this, and is able to handle it in a constructive, professional manner. It will probably be the way things are from now on. And his gracious acceptance of it may be required in order for him to win the election.

She really has excited the base, and is an international curiosity.

He was in PA yesterday. The event calendar (http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Calendar/) does not show his next visit yet (it only goes to Sept. 6th).

He graciously let her have the spotlight today, and further down the road, they most likely be campaigning separately.

I don’t think McCain is all that upset about being upstaged by Sarah. This is a home run for him and she’s going to punch his ticket for the White House.

Senator McCain and Governor Palin will be in Michigan on Friday of this coming week. Get tickets from the Macomb Victory Center.

McCain needs to pound the Change theme right up Obama’s backside.

Democrats ...same old BS for 40 years.

I agree..hit Obama on SAME OLD LIBERAL TAX AND SPEND, tell the people about Obama being the #1 liberal senator, and Biden being the #3 most liberal senator.

Agreed. I saw an interview with McCain about an hour ago on CSPAN and he seemed VERY happy with the reaction that he and his campaign have received since announcing Palin as their VP nominee.

I definitely did not sense any resentment whatsoever at the attention being showered on Palin. In fact, quite the opposite.

She's as real as it gets and should do nothing to change it. Best of all, we live in the same town.

What I said were McCains words to Chris Wallace this morning. Yours is even better and probably more accurate.

"She really has excited the base, and is an international curiosity."

The people in Europe can barely comprehend a man shooting an M-16. Seeing pictures of a woman shooting an M-16 and posing with a carribu she just killed is just too much for them to handle.
