Zogby: Palin Gives McCain Big Boost (McCain/Palin: 47% - Obama/Biden 45%)

Republican John McCain's surprise announcement Friday of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate - some 16 hours after Democrat Barack Obama's historic speech accepting his party’s presidential nomination - has possibly stunted any Obama convention bump, the latest Zogby Interactive flash poll of the race shows.

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.

In other words, the race is a dead heat.

The interactive online Zogby survey shows that both Obama and McCain have solidified the support among their own parties - Obama won 86% support of Democrats and McCain 89% of Republicans in a two-way head-to-head poll question not including the running mates. When Biden and Palin are added to the mix, Obama's Democratic support remains at 86%, while McCain's increases to 92%.

After the McCain "Veep" announcement on Friday, Palin was almost immediately hailed as a strong conservative, and those voters have rallied to the GOP ticket, the survey shows. Republicans gather in St. Paul, Minnesota this week to officially nominate McCain and Palin as their presidential ticket.

Overall, 52% said the selection of Palin as the GOP vice presidential nominee helps the Republican ticket, compared to 29% who said it hurt. Another 10% said it made no difference, while 10% were unsure. Among independent voters, 52% said it helps, while 26% said it would hurt. Among women, 48% said it would help, while 29% said it would hurt the GOP ticket. Among Republicans, the choice was a big hit - as 87% said it would help, and just 3% said it would hurt.

50%+ will be demoralizing for them.

Or it will be considered "Bush's fault".

Gallup consistently over samples big city Dems and independents IE communists and socialists. You can take 3%-4% off the top of the lefty number and give it the American candidate to get an accurate poll.

I would like to think that this would be a sure bet after the first debate.

The polls I’d love to see are the Democrats’ own internal polls. I think those polls have told them something that is causing them to start with this dumbass “inexperience” nonsense and the verbal attacks against Sarah saying that she is a woman and should be at home watching her baby and baking cookies.

A gentle reminder

Only one poll matters, that on November 4th.

With Palin, I don’t see how McCain can lose!

yea I think Gallup had some kind of outlier on Wednesday after bills speech. Obama jumped way too high compared to the other polls.

We can now officially apply the dead-cat-bounce label to obama’s convention bounce.

When you put the Obama Resume up against the Palin Resume,
Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President of the U.S.

Reminds me of my wife. She tells me what to do and I eventually like it. If she can do that to me, then Governor Palin can do it for the country.

We underestimate women's influence and ability at our peril.

I'm with yunz! Friday afternoon at a small mom and pop, blue collar, working class bar outside of Pittsburgh teh local ratz are COMPLETELY disgusted with their beloved democrat party. Usually I'm the only conservative in the place, they're vocal, and try to bait me into an arguement.

But this election cycle is different.

Friday the dozen or so that were there sat in silence sobbing itno their beers when the 4 o'clock news came on. Finally one spoke up, slammed his hand on the bar and loudly proclaimed..."This isn't my party!" "What happened?"

The others joined in with similar comments. Lots were angry because Hillary isn't on the ticket. Then they started talking about Palin.

It was great! ALL of them claimed they will vote for McCain/Palin, especilly now that Palin is the VP pick. They like her hunting/fishing/outdoor aspects..they like her abortion stance...and after I showed them a picture of her as Miss Walissa 1984, they LOVE her because she's hot.

Seriously every one of the ratz at the watering hole say they will never vote for Obama, they will vote republican, some for the first time in their life.

I basked in the glow of the moment.

Did I mention SP is still hot?

Yeah, cause all the conservatives (and religious like liberals) they might have interviewed may have been at Wenseday night bible study instead of watching Bill?

Whatever these “polls” say....subtract 8 to 10 points (from obummer) for the Bradley effect.

AND... that the Republican/Conservative ticket always underpolls about 5%.

I don't care what any FReepers say to me, but by definition, anyone born from a Muslim father is Muslim; Obama is a Muslim. His Father was a Muslim that makes him a Muslim.

You should read this and not dismiss it:

http://friskodude.blogspot.com/2008/01/is-barak-obama-still-muslim.html

it is obvious that Barack Obama is considered, according to Islamic Shari’a, a Muslim regardless of whether he practiced the religion of Islam in dedication to the prayers, paying the ‘zakat’ (alms giving), or going to Mecca for pilgrimage, or any of the other conditions prescribed by the Quran for Muslims to follow.

No matter which poll you look at you know the Obama campaign is not happy with the polls at this point. They had to be expecting and hoping for at least a decent sized lead after announcing their VP choice and having their convention. Their VP choice gave no bounce and possibly even hurt them and the convention didn't give the bounce they wanted.
