McCain places a calculated bet on Palin

Hey, is anybody out there still talking about that big Barack Obama speech Thursday night? Thought not! John McCain’s daring choice of running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has already paid off big-time, starving the Democratic Party of the attention and praise it had hoped to enjoy for a few days in the wake of Sen. Obama’s oration on “The Promise of America.” It also, in retrospect, casts a rather pathetic light on Hillary Clinton’s endless braying about how she may not have won the Democratic nomination, but at least she “cracked” the “glass ceiling” that was keeping women off of national presidential tickets.

Anybody seen the latest poll numbers? I’m not much of a poll watcher, but I would be interested in seeing the latest numbers right after Thurs night/Fri afternoon.

McCain is betting people buy into the notion he has suddenly become a conservative after years of siding with socialist RATS on many issues simply because he chose a conservative only a little more than two months before the election. Unfortunately people are buying into his scam.

I turned off Rush to watch McCain announce his pick for V.P. and now I am very much looking forward to voting for this ticket rather than against Obama/Biden as I had resigned myself to do. And I also am very much looking forward to having a strong conservative woman as V.P. and, if she is the kind of person I believe she is, as President.

There are too few high quality women in national office. Most of the women who are and get face time, Pelosi, Clinton, Lee, Feinstein, etc. are hideous stereotypical examples of liberal women who only seem to support the need for a glass ceiling less one of them get into a position of real power as Pelosi has done and really screw things up, as Pelosi and the rest have done.

But now we have a real opportunity for a consciousness shift. Sarah Palin's job performance in Washington and on our national stage could very well remove doubts about electing a woman as president while providing a great example for our girls and boys alike to aspire to. What a surprise August 29th turned out to be!

I love this:

“Seriously? You’re going to make her a high-school basketball star who played the championship game on a broken ankle and made the 11th-hour shot to win it? And then she becomes the ethics czar for oil regulation and fights dirty politicians in her own party single-handed? And this bit about the infamous ‘Bridge to Nowhere,’ when she actually sends $200-million in federal money for a notorious porkbarrel project back to Washington? And it says here she’s got one kid going to fight in Iraq and another newborn son with Down’s syndrome that she chose to have and raise? And she’s a snowmobile fanatic, licensed pilot and National Rifle Association member who’s so beautiful she will probably have to be played by Angelina Jolie? …Buddy, I don’t know whether to give you a million bucks or smack you in the mouth.”

It looks like they forgot the part where she wins the first round of Miss America, then comes in second for Miss Alaska, winning Miss Congeniality along the way.

...and the part where she’s married to a native american who is a 4x winner of a cross-yukon snowmobile race, and that she helped run her husband’s family fishing business, and that she also owned an RV dealership at one point (or so I heard somewhere).

There was never a “glass ceiling” holding women down, at least not from most voters’ viewpoint. Rather, it was just necessary for the passage of time for enough women to enter politics and for one to emerge with the character and stature worth supporting for national office.

That time, that woman, has arrived!

From the number of emotiona,l frenzied responses on FR today, I would say that he won the bet. Just how Palin is going to swing him away from his dedication as a socialist, I don’t understand. Do you?

Pardon the vernacular but it ain't gonna happen. The extent to which people delude themselves into believing otherwise is astounding. It's as if they actually think McCain is saying to himself I've seen the light! I'm a changed man thanks to Sarah Palin! You conservatives can now vote for me!
