Russia is quickly and very blatantly making known its original intent in Georgia. No denying it or shading it. They are annexing those provinces and will make them a part of Russia, forcing any loyal Georgians to leave and taking or destroying their proprty.
Georgia (and probably the Ukraine) will soon become a part of NATO and there will be US and NATO bases there to offset the Russian presence in the former provinces.
Ultimately, IMHO, Russia will pay a huge price diplomatically and economically for its naked agression. I just hope it comes quicklly enough and forcefully enough to prevent any further such "conquests".
Ultimately I believe it will hurt the Russian people enough that they will eject Putin and his cronies.

Putin is Hitler in a suit.
There is little difference between Hitler invading the Sudetenland in the late 30s and Putin invading Georgia in ‘08.
I'm not sure that the Europeans have the nerve to oppose Putin's Russia by bringing Georgia in to NATO and stationing troops there.

The similarities are striking between Hitler/Sudetenland/Czeck and Putin/South Ossetia/Georgia.
I believe Georgia will become a part of NATO. NATO and the US can get that done..

I don’t know about rejecting Putin, they put up with oppression for over 70 years from their “leaders” for the sake of the glorious revolution and international Marxism. They seem to have a herd mentality and as long as they have enough to eat and feel like they can beat up on their neighbors, they are happy enough.

Someone needs to whisper in Putins ear........We can make it look like an accident !
In the mean time we “help” build up Georgia with defensive firepower equal to or better than Israel militarily to a point that Russia can’t use their Muslim Chechen militia mercs to slaughter civilians again.

I have a brother, an executive at an engineering firm in Texas, who annually takes a 2-3 week mission aborad for his church. Several times he has been to Russia in the last 10 years. He tells me he does not believe that most of the people will go back.
We will see.
Investors are bailing and the Russian people will feel the impact of that.

Putin already stated that to do so would be considered an act of war...

We need to act now, demand immediate with-drawl or be forced out. No timetables, just go now or we shred your forces and grind them into dust. Already he has removed his disposable forces, those which he knew he would lose if any serious resistance was encountered. In its place he now has modern equipment such as T-90 and T-92 tanks in place of the old T-72s he sent back to Russia, for use later on Ukraine. The longer we wait the greater his advantage, the longer we wait the stronger and bolder he grows.
“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” Winston Churchill

Hold on because if it’s McCain or Obama Putin will push them around like they were messy punks both of them have no balls.

You are spot on about Obama. Putin will chew him up and spit him out as a appetizer before breakfast.
but you are dead wrong on McCain.

Jeff,
It's spelled 'razed'.

And if it weren’t for Kosovo, Russia wouldn’t have set the WABAC machine to 1992 in order to lay the groundwork for their present day reincorporation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia back into Russia, would they?

Cindy McCain has already been to Georgia...and you don’t send your wife there if you are going to let your buddies die on the vine.
So I’m confident that McCain will defend what’s left of Georgia. Of course, Georgia is going to lose Ossetia. That can’t be helped due to European and U.S. mistakes in Kosovo.
Such is geopolitics.
But Georgia will certainly be able to bleed the Bear for us if Putin wants the rest of Georgia for his own.
Not gonna get it.
