Obama Campaign Confronts WGN Radio (Directs ObamaNazis to Target Stanley Kurtz Interview Tonight)

Sen. Barack Obama's campaign is organizing its supporters tonight to confront Tribune-owned WGN radio in Chicago for having a critic of the Illinois Democrat on its air.

"WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears," Obama's campaign wrote in an e-mail to supporters. "He's currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers."

Kurtz, a conservative writer, recently wrote an article for the National Review that looked at Obama's ties to former 1960s radical William Ayers.

The magazine had been blocked in its initial attempts to obtain records from the University of Illinois at Chicago regarding the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which Obama chaired and Ayers co-founded. The school later reserved its position and made the records available Tuesday.

Obama's campaign is urging supporters to call the radio station to complain.

"Tell WGN that by providing Kurtz with airtime, they are legitimizing baseless attacks from a smear-merchant and lowering the standards of political discourse," the note said.

"It is absolutely unacceptable that WGN would give a slimy character assassin like Kurtz time for his divisive, destructive ranting on our public airwaves," the note continued. "At the very least, they should offer sane, honest rebuttal to every one of Kurtz's lies."

The fear is understandable but I remember in reading Whittaker Chambers’ autobiograpy Witness a similar situation. Similar in that he was a target. He he had to be in hiding for awhile. He knew at one point that he had to “get visible” to be safe, especially for the sake of his wife and children. Kurtz is visible now and anything that “happens” will now be noticed by a LOT of people. Me, being a nobody, won’t be missed if I “disappear”. Okay...my dog might miss me ‘cause I feed him.

Good point.However, just as you alluded to, the ‘nobody’ researchers and bloggers working on this stuff may not be as ‘safe’ and Kurtz should not feel ‘safe’ just because it is ‘out there’ now.

Here we have a candidate for President sending out emails to his millions of supporters calling on them to ‘stop’ the people spreading ‘smears’. That is unprecedented in the history of our country and very very scary imho.

It is one thing for a Move On type activist group to organize email campaigns etc. and quite another for a Presidential campaign to do it.

We know from the past 8 years (and longer) that the people who support democrats are angry, seething and often unhinged.

There is a chill in the air of free speech and if the democrats sweep all 3 branches...the race will be on to shut down conservative voices all together.

“Truly extraordinary story about the Obama campaign's attempt to intimidate and bully WGN into not airing a segment with writer Stanley Kurtz, who has been documenting Obama's ties to the unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers.”

Question is, is Obama’s Intimidation Tactics used to silence talk radio not a very good indication that if he were to get elected he will use the IRS, the Department of Justice, and any other government tool at his disposal to attack every media source and every individual which exposes his doings, and would especially use the force of government to mount a chilling attack on conservative talk show hosts such as Larry Elder, Ken Hamblin, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, Bill Bennet, Mark Levin, Chuck Baldwin and others?

I believe it’s quite clear that Obama has shown us he has something very much in common with book burners of the past. Do we really want this kind of person as the leader of the free world, one who has proven he will use resources which are at his disposal to silence political speech?

Obama’s orchestrated attempt to silence talk radio, as distinguished from Obama’s association with Billy the-bomb-maker Ayers, is a very big story in and of itself and needs to be front page news across the country!

There is no doubt that an ‘Obama Administration’, along with a Democrat run Congress, will do grave damage to this country......it’s freedoms and it’s economic and national security.

Hopefully, the American people are waking up and will not let the greatest country on earth full into these people’s hands!

"When the heavy hand of the state is imposed on the press, all of us lose," Barack Obama told a group of Kenyan journalists during an August 2006 trip to Africa.

Mr. Obama's remarks implied he supports the First Amendment. His comment that "Democracy can't function properly without a free press," suggested he understood the importance of robust scrutiny of elected officials. Yet, when given the opportunity, Mr. Obama's recent actions have contradicted his own statements.

Another Obama target is Chicago radio station WGN. The source of Mr. Obama's ire is talk-show host Stanley Kurtz who is no Friend of Barry. The Obama campaign has urged supporters to attack WGN for permitting Mr. Kurtz to practice his profession.
