...In February, the Florida Department of Education modified its standards to explicitly require, for the first time, the states public schools to teach evolution, calling it the organizing principle of life science. Spurred in part by legal rulings against school districts seeking to favor religious versions of natural history, over a dozen other states have also given more emphasis in recent years to what has long been the scientific consensus: that all of the diverse life forms on Earth descended from a common ancestor, through a process of mutation and natural selection, over billions of years.
But in a nation where evangelical Protestantism and other religious traditions stress a literal reading of the biblical description of Gods individually creating each species, students often arrive at school fearing that evolution, and perhaps science itself, is hostile to their faith.
Some come armed with Ten questions to ask your biology teacher about evolution, a document circulated on the Internet that highlights supposed weaknesses in evolutionary theory. Others scrawl their opposition on homework assignments. Many just tune out.

It’s a bad idea, IMO, to expect the schools to teach religion. In most schools, it would be impossible to even decide what religion to teach, even if that was allowed.
WHOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA! The issue isn’t remotely about “teaching religion” in schools ... how is that concluded by say the Georgia ACLU threatening the school board here in Newton County Georgia to remove Christmas from the school calendar or face legal action?
How is the recognition of God or even a federal holiday “teaching religion”?
BTW, NO parents were informed, and the lawyer for the school said not to change it but out of fear, they removed the mere WORD CHristmas from all aschool calendars.
DOZENS upon DOZENS of other examples, that you sure as the day is long won’t hear about from the drive-by media!
That is tough, I know.
But the world of religion does change over time. I don't see more than half a dozen FReepers defending geocentrism. When evolution is 400 years old, it will be similarly rare to deny it.
and yet we were in no danger of becoming a theocracy...before or after...agreed.
So why do the godless need to censor and suer to silence ID again?
And what evidence do you have that godless liberals are somehow “objective” again, be it in journalsim, law, politics, education...?
So you feel more at home with Allah than Darwin I take it.
“tough” ?????
It’s immoral and it’s UN-American to enforce your views through lawsuits and censorship.
Frankly the True word of God won’t change in 400 or 4000 years, not 40 ga-jillion, and evolution won’t stand up to the Truth and you like everyone else will be standing all alone in front of Jesus Christ.
Me too. Such folks are simply "too clever" by half, ever festooning the public discourse with red herrings and strawman arguments.... It seems they "pretend" that they they can't even begin to understand what the brou-ha-ha is all about, this public resistance to full indoctrinalization into this bastardized, corrupt, and co-opted doctrine that is sold as a "theory of evolution" these days....
Sigh....
Thank you so much for writing, valkyry1! Jeepers, I meant to ping you to that post; so I'm truly glad you found it on your own.... I'll pay more attention to such details, going forward.

hypocrite = a prerequisite to become a democrat.
Glad to be of some help. ;)
Do you eat pork or shellfish? Does the earth move?
I was thinking more in line with truth than falsehoods.
As explained many times, I’ve played the game before...censoring others won’t help your cause. And since your cause can’t stand on it’s own any other way, I can understand your frustration.
can you provide any evidence where godless liberals have been objective?
journalism?
politics?
law?
Do you eat pork or shellfish? Does the earth move? Simple yes or no questions.
good luck with that.
still waiting for you!
I asked first...
journalism?
law?
education?
politics?
IS there ONE instance where godless liberals have been objective?
actually it’s hypocrite and democrat...which are synonymous.
I don’t know if the Word of God changes, but I am certain that religion and religious people have been wrong about things they thought the Bible said.

The ACLU and the ACLU of Texas(2008) filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the Texas Supreme Court in support of mothers who had been separated from their children by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). The DFPS seized more than 450 children from their homes in Eldorado, Texas following vague allegations about child abuse by some members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While fully supporting the state's commitment to protecting children from abuse, the ACLU argued that Texas law and the U.S. Constitution required that the children be returned unless the state could provide the requisite evidence of abuse. Neither Texas law nor the U.S. Constitution allows the state to separate children and their parents based on purported cultural harm alone or on the state's disapproval of the families’ religious beliefs. In May 2008, the Texas Supreme Court unanimously ruled, consistent with the ACLU position, that the state must return the children to their homes pending further investigation of allegations of abuse.

Your turn.
Thank you, but please refrain from pinging me. I have no interest once these threads become overtly “religious”.
