The good news is that since it was Tae Kwon Do, the kick didn’t hurt or do any damage.

After angrily questioning the decision, the Cuban pushed a judge,
then pushed and kicked referee Chakir Chelbat of Sweden.
Matos then spat on the floor before being escorted out.
Sounds like two charges of assault and battery, maybe even a
charge of intent to maim.
This does raise questions "above my paygrade".
Maybe some Freeper lawyer could comment: what legal system governs
an athlete at an international sporting event: the perp's home
country, the host country, or none at all as the athletes
might be considered "ambassadors" with legal immunity.
I have NO idea of how this would be resolved in a legal sense.
"He was too strict," Gonzalez said of the decision to disqualify Matos.
LOL!
Reminds me of the jerk that crashed his pickup truck into the
rear bumper of my co-worker's beloved Mustang...causing the
Mustang to be totalled (fortunately my co-worker escaped with
some modest abrasions).
The jerk's defense as stated to my co-worker:
"You were going too slow."
(as if that's a proper reason to ram a truck into a car going
45 in a 45 speed zone!)

"After angrily questioning the decision, the Cuban pushed a judge, then pushed and kicked referee Chakir Chelbat of Sweden." Hmmm Neutral Judge got Kicked. Irony?

I’d like to think my counter to that kick would have left the guy’s voice a couple of octaves higher.

We may be seeing Mr. Angel Matos making his move to defect to the U.S. on his way home to Cuba.
Better than cutting sugar cane forever.

You are right about the non block. IMHO the WTF fighting style has caused a lack of emphasis in blocking skills.
BTW, I’m proudly (yet humbly) a WTF Yi Dan. Any one else out there belted?

Too bad Bruce Lee wasn't the ref:

That is an assault. Criminal charges to follow.

Just goes to show what a joke Tae Kwon Do is when it comes to real life. Didn’t even knock the ref down and the ref wasn’t even expecting it. A Muy Thai fighter would have killed the ref.

The jerk's defense as stated to my co-worker: "You were going too slow." I had a guy run into the rear end of my pickup while we were waiting to leave our work place. I was stopped because several logging trucks were passing on the main road, and this jerk hit me and later said "I thought you were going to move into the road way!" as if somehow I was going to drive out in front of several semis and get flattened.
He paid for the damage but crabbed about it forever, never admitting it was his fault. You can guess his political party affiliation!(starts with a D)

I was thinking the same thing. I keep seeing the mental image of the Castro’s with cats in the lap, saying “This organization does not tolerate failure”.
