Heh. Abortion’s not even my issue any more. Just pointing something out. No, I refuse to vote for Captain Amnesty, and “we want a VP who will help win the election” is not me. Like I said, Jesus or the Ghost of Ronald Reagan won’t get me to vote for this ticket.

(snip)...

another "reach around" (to the Dems?)

""Nice as a Minus It's hard to find someone in Washington willing to say a bad word about Portman. Sure, there's some professional jealousy about Portman's rapid rise in Congress and the Administration -- a show horse, not a work horse, his critics allege -- but those hits on him are few and far between. Why? Because, during his time in Congress, and even while he worked within the Bush Administration, Portman showed a willingness to work regularly with Democrats on a variety of issues. (Maryland Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin is an unabashed Portman admirer, for example.)"

Well, then he ought to ask Hillary.

I’ll save the one with the great black and white striped tie for later, if need be. :-)

Better get the earplugs!

If this is true, the whining will turn to wailing, gnashing of teeth, hair pulling, AND threats to take their ball and go home!

LOL!

At this point - if Romney is picked on the 29th - do not donate to McCain 2008 because their deadline to spend their warchest is the 31st. Donate to RNC Victory 2008 which is the only official joint RNC-McCain fundraising arm which can directly support McCain after the 31st. The maximum donation is $28,500. (I wish I could give that much.)

Time Magazine hasn’t broken a hot story in 50 years ... or is it 60?

It’s not about ideology.

It’s about victory. The Mormon haters among the far right wing may be lost, if they were truly going to vote McCain anyway, but that’s it.

Romney may lose McCain some votes among the extremists in states McCain will carry by 10+%, but he won’t lose any votes among moderates — simply because he was Governor of the most liberal state in the country, as a Republican. If he can win the decisive moderate votes among independents or even centrist Democrats in Michigan because of his family history there, and bring out the Mormon vote en masse in Colorado and Nevada, Romney can somewhat quietly be the decisive figure in the election.

From Day One, people . . . from the first day of this overall campaign there was not going to be a conservative agenda. There could not be because the Dems are going to control Congress. There can be no conservative agenda with a liberal Congress. The president’s role in 2009 is to dilute the left’s agenda. That’s the best you can do this year, and to do that at all you have to win.

Winning is the ultimate requirement when you face a far left wing Congress and the most liberal Senator existing as the presidential opponent. Winning trumps absolutely everything in that circumstance.

Romney has electoral vote potential in the marginal blue states absolutely necessary if Virginia is at risk — and of all the talked of VP possibilities, he’s about the only one who does beyond Pawlenty, and Minnesota can’t undo the possible loss of Colorado and Nevada. Romney can.

Nope.

Not voting for electors pledged to Obama either.

Sorry.

AIT, he was my representative for a while. Jeanne Schmidt took his place. He was a tremendous conservative. Working with democrats on some issues isn’t really a problem. We need a little of that. Did he compromise on big issues? Not that I ever saw.

Toss what away? Romney is a conservative. He campaigned for POTUS as such. He governed the most liberal state in the Union as best he could mostly as such.

There would still be 10% of conservatives who would rationalize voting for Scarface still-because of the big bad wolf of Obama, but I know a great majority--and certainly most of Freeperdom--would RESOUNDINGLY and finally come out and help us realign the American political system with a new Conservative Alternative Focus and Mission (call it "Independent" or "Third Party" or whatever), and put the Dems(D) and the Repubs(D) into the scrap heap of history for the sorry, big government, open border fools they truly are.

Sometimes in life we have to make the best of what we have. McCain is not my guy but I do know how much damage Obama could do. If you think there is no difference between the two you are a fool of unbelieveable proportions. We cannot survive an Obama presidency. We can survice a McCain presidency. You would be begging for a moderate like McCain after just a few months of Obama with a democratic congress.
And another thing where did you get the idea that conservatives are anything like the majority in the US? You haven't been paying attention or you have spent too much time in Japan.

The big hairy ape demographic tends not to vote on election day. They just take the walking around money and spend it on beef jerky.

If you're going to talk about me, at least have the courtesy to ping me.

I think this is a red herring. The campaign wants to change the headlines about McCain’s houses and break into the Obama veep watch story.

The thing is that Romney is suddenly growing on me. We need someone who is a tough debater against Biden and Romney fits the bill, but now that his name is being leaked he is sure not to get the nod.

romney is a complete fraud. i hope this aint true.

I'm with you. I was hoping that McCain would pick someone that would actually make me able to vote for him without vomiting. I promised the folks down at our polling place that I would never again vote for someone who made me physically ill on their equipment...again....

I have been struggling with who to vote for, and praying that Juan McCain would pick someone who would make the ticket something I could hold my nose and vote for...

So we get Romney?

Pro-Abortion (I just don't buy presidential campaign conversion)
Pro-socialized medicine
Flip-Flopper (you would think he took lessons from Kerry)

That being said - he comes across as so likable... Yet I don't trust Romney any more than I trust McCain or even Obama. At least Obama has finally admitted that he is pro-infanticide.

And no - they won't allow me into the voting booth if I plan to vote for Obama... I would throw up all over the machine.

So many good and LEGITIMATE possible running mates... and he chooses a loser from the primaries....
