Two Republicans who know say McCain has settled on Mitt Romney as his running mate. Developing...

The last solidly conservative running mate with any hope to secure the presidency was Mr. Quayle - and sadly he was made a mockery of and tarnished his career. McCain is not the oldest, Reagan and Dole were both older. McCain has been cancer free for years. He is in good health. And 72 is the new 62.
No. But it's extremely naive and delusional to think that Michigan, a state that, last I checked, Obama was leading by around five percentage points is going to suddenly and overwhelming swing towards McCain just because he's got Flip Romney on the ticket as his frickin' VP.
I’m not influenced by a radio-talk show hosts. Sorry.
If Rush wants to abandon his conservative principles in order to support Willard, that is his business. It doesn’t make Willard a conservative. In fact, Rush has never called Romney, a conservative.
There has never been strong support for the likes of Rudy McRomney on FR. I don’t see that changing anytime soon either.
No, but I admit I didn't see it. Did McCain admit his blunders on immigration, campaign finance reform, interrogation methods, and Guantanamo and vow to bring his positions on these issues into line with normal Americans?
Not an unexpected post from him/her.
What would you say, Scarchin, if I posted that you were a “racist” for not supporting Obama. That’s right, you’re not voting for Obama because he’s black, (to borrow a phrase from Hillary, “as far as I know”) it’s because of so many things outside of what race he happens to be. You do not agree with him at all politically.
For me, and many others, it’s not because of Mitt’s religious beliefs, it’s for so many things outside of his religious beliefs. We’ve already got us a RINO candidate, McCain.
Pawlenty could be a wise choice. He’s been a pretty good gov expect for his jump on the ethanol/green bandwagon. I didn’t like him signing off on a statewide smoking ban either. It shuttered a lot of mom and pop businesses.
He’s very prolife, has vetoed a lot of taxes, is articulate and young at 46.
Isn’t Halperin usually accurate? That’s my impression from the talk shows.
All this anti-Mitt bashing has been going on for months and during the primaries. The anti’s have stated their misguided opinions and have used left wing news sources such as the Concord Monitor and New York Times to back up their ill found logic.
Romney Care has been taken over by the dimocRATS in the state and have taken it in a direction that Mitt would not have. I know you guys want to blame Mitt for the dimocRATS misdeeds but you have to be fair about it. This has all been hashed out in the previous months and I'm not about go over old ground again.
All this was to keep McCain in the headlines. It was Romney all along. Or not.
Yeah, I think so (I don't really know, I've never traded).
You can simply pick whomever you think it will be.
It’s going to be Romney. Justshutupandtakeit
LOL
Because other than Lieberman, the others did not run in a primary and have exposure to millions of voters. People who go see primary candidates tend to know a lot about that person.
Fact is, McCain is not personally "loved" by me and I suspect many others. But if he can provide someone I really like as VP, then I would go see the VP, give money and help the campaign. If he gives me someone I don't even know, is boring as heck, then forget it. I'll vote but that's as far as my enthusiasm goes. There isn't that much time till election day to get acquainted with someone like Crist, Demint, Portman. I wouldn't know Demint or Portman if you put the picture up.
Pawlently is not the best pick although I would be satisfied with him. Too obscure and he won’t deliver MN. Romney is tried and tested. Frankly most of the other names floated around are not. The Dems had a year to come up with something on Romney. They came up with a dogcage. That’s vetting already done, no need to sweat and worry over. Why pick an unknown when you can have a fully grown national candidate with a base of supporters eagerly awaiting? It will energize the party.
Like I said.. Take your bawl and go home please. We don’t want you.
I did not mean to say that all of Mitt’s detractors are bigots - but many are.
As far as the issue of him being a RINO goes, you and the others are dead wrong.
And my experience here tells me that nothing will change your mind or the minds of others.
McCain has been doing good at fighting the Obama whine machine. I’ve been pleased. Now please me with your Veep pick and you have my vote.
What do you expect? FR is a conservative forum. We always attack liberals. Stop your whining and get over it.
I find it hard to believe that anyone with any common since would let someone like Obama any where near the oval office and pick the next Supreme Court justices. That would set your desired goals back for decades to come.
Sarah Palin is the best choice IMO.
Kerry was leading MI by about 8-10 points in ‘04. He won by 3. MI is actually a state that teases more Dem than GOP which means we do better than we poll. 5 points is EASILY in range. Besides how would you know what Romney would do - he isn’t on the ticket yet.
