Norway's Defense Ministry says Russia has informed it that it plans to cut all military ties with NATO.

Ministry spokeswoman Heidi Langvik-Hansen says the country's embassy received a telephone call from Russia's Defense Ministry on Wednesday, saying Moscow plans "to freeze all military cooperation with NATO and allied countries."

I think that the House Elf is planning on something during our transition in leadership.

Ukraine barring Russian “ships of aggression” from the Black Sea ports and Poland immediately signing a “defense shield” agreement were frankly, in diplomatic terms instantaneous.
Along with the show of unity of all the former Russian satellites heads of state flying immediately to Georgia, along with SoS Rice....I believe the Russians know full well that aggression against Poland would instantly bring reprisal.
Big Deal, the Russians cut ties with NATO, they’ll have to come up with a better hand at this point if they want to play poker.
I did find that notifying Norway, of all countries, as a rather bizarre way to make a statement.

You and me both. Unlike the former CCCP we actually have 3 services which are kick ass. And the navy and the AF aren’t too busy these days Vlad. And oh by the way, we really haven’t engaged all the army and marines, either. And, they happen to be combat experienced against enemies that - shoot back or attempt to shoot the troops in the back, either case. I like our chances as well.

>>Patton was right, and Eisenhower is going to be exposed by historians for his short-sightedness.>>

Ike is the one who brought evolution into public schools and started us on the road to liberalism with the 60s. I hold no love for that man.

Nothing in Cuba I would want, now that I am married. ;)

Its not just Iran. The left in this country, with the media’s complicity, has hamstrung our ability to project a threat to our enemies. What they observe after seeing the trumped up size of groups like Code Pink and ANSWR, is that the Americans are week and are in no mood for confrontation. These idiots have not only emboldened the Islamists, they have emboldened the Bear and other enemies like Venezuela.

People look at me when i call the Dems traitors. They are a significant threat the well being of yourself and your children and family. Part of me wants to do like John Galt, and stop doing anything to assist these morons. Let all the “carriers” watch the “carried” starve to death or be eaten by our advesaries.

He was also the one who sent the 101st Airborne to Arkansas to enforce desegregation. You got a problem with that?

Boy did you nail it. Countries like France were killing them in the total medal count and their gymnastics teams didn’t get a single medal. To make matters worse, a couple times the russians were in contention for a bronze medal, but the chinese with inferior performances got higher scores from the biased judging and pushed them out.
Talk about rubbing their faces in it. Soviet Union v2.0 losing to the french in total medals. No wonder Putin started a war.

NATO didn’t salvage the Kursk; two Dutch companies, Mammoet and Smit International did.

I did find that notifying Norway, of all countries, as a rather bizarre way to make a statement.

Recall that when the Kursk sank that the Russians eventually cooperated with the Norwegians in the recovery effort after rejecting British & American offers of assistance. I thought that was weird at the time. The only explanation that I could come up with was that the Russians were convinced that we (or the Brits) had a hand in the Kursk's sinking. Norway has always been a member of NATO, so you have to assume that anything you show to Norway will be disseminated to the rest of the alliance.

IMO, the thugocracy of Russia is simply rebuilding its empire, & is no longer afraid of NATO. Russia has watched as the West has badly handled Iranian aggression & its nuke program. Putin knows NATO will dither for months or years before doing ANYTHING re. Georgia.

Putin is a criminal & cares nothing for the lives of his people or others. He's on the Power & Money trip that most strongmen practice - see Mugabe, Mao, Castro, Hitler, etc.

He knows he has a stalemate re. nuclear weapons. As much as he fears a nuclear war, the West fears it so much more.

He also knows GWB is a very lame duck, rarely even making the news. Condi Rice looks & acts like a disappointed school teacher..., oh, she is. The new President will need several months to assess the situation & react, leaving Putin & others time to do more land grabs.

Add to this the dependency of Europe for Russian oil & gas, plus the Russian Veto in the UNSC, & Putin is holding the winning hand.

The West has once again proved its impotence, & Putin is now free to absorb the Baltic States & Ukraine, while extorting NATO countries to sit by & watch passively, & pay for it, too. Short of attacking a NATO country directly, Putin is free to roam.

If GWB had put the country on high alert & flooded the Georgia airspace with US planes, Putin would have backed off. Instead, the NATO hand wringers have convinced many that NATO is just a bluff!

Will Russia form an alliance with Iran?

Will it be called Kaos or Spectre?

Calm down, tiny, and put away your PC sensibility. Ike was weak when he allowed abortion into schools. If you have a different subtopic than mine, go start your own thread.

Yes, but the first divers on the wreck were Norwegians. I've been told by a buddy of mine who is a former RN diver that this was a fig leaf. Several of the first divers on the Kursk were actually RN divers. Friends of his.

The Russians didn't want to be seen cooperating with a foreign Navy, I guess.

Your take on Ike is insane. There, back on topic. We’ll not really since the topic of this thread is about current events, not 50 year old happenings, which is what you brought to the party. As to PC, I think not. Not. Even. Close.

Cold War II starts now.

On a much smaller scale. No Soviet Union, no East Germany, no Czechoslovakis, no Hungary, no Ukraine.

UN is going the way of the League of Nations. Perhaps EU countries will be motivated to increase their defense spending.

Putin messed up. I think he was banking on an Obama presidency, and jumped the gun.

The only other alternative is that Putin had a secret deal with McCain, similar to Gary Sick's "October Surprise", when the Reagan campaign made a deal with the Iranians to hold the hostages until after the election.

Of course, that was bovine scatology, but it was a great conspiracy. Just like Putin wanting McCain to be President.

Aleichem shalom!
