I am proud that I listened to the Bay City Rollers! I wanted to marry Ian! When I found out he got married, I scribbled his face off my album cover, boo hoo. :)

McCain’s greatest political asset is Obama’s mouth.

They CAN get rid of him... it just needs to be done carefully,

He can always claim to have a stress-related illness that requires his hospitalization.

From the Boston Globe:

B> Turnout Obama's 'ace in the hole?'

**************************EXCERPT**************************

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor August 20, 2008 11:51 AM

The latest "Battleground Poll" from George Washington University reinforces what seems to be consensus among national polls just preceding the nominating conventions -- the horse race is neck and neck, despite disdain for Republicans and the Bush administration generally.

In the poll, released today, Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are statistically tied, with McCain leading 47 percent to 46 percent in a survey with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. They're also tied in favorability, at 57 percent each.

“It is amazing how similar the image scores appear to be for both Barack Obama and John McCain. If Obama is this agent of change that America has been waiting for, why is his image no better than the nominee from the other party—a political party whose brand is supposed to be so badly damaged?” Republican pollster Brian Tringali asks in a release on the poll.

McCain is moving up largely because his standing is improving among all-important independent voters. He leads Obama by 10 percentage points, after trailing by 14 percentage points in May.

Interestingly, though, 51 percent of voters say they believe Obama will win, compared to 34 percent who pick McCain.

they might start choosing candidates that are close enough to the mainstream to win in the general election

The problem is, they don't have anyone that fits that description any more. Even those who they trot out as being centrists (Evan Bayh, Mark Warner) could not possibly be, because they enthusiastically support a socialist for President. Show me a Dem who publicly says that Obama is too left wing for him to support and I will show you a possible centrist Democrat. Bill Clinton pretended to be a centrist with his DLC friends, but we now know that was a scam. They are all socialists, and to the extent they get elected, it is because they hide who they are and where they want to take this country, and people don't pay attention.

It is a total no win for dems now.:Taking the nomination away fro bo would destroy the party. And what if bo himself took himself out? A black man bowing out to THE MAN. Barring any horrible mccain blujders, and it would have to be of epic proportions, McCain is the President. And I have to drop that I have said forever that BO will lose in a landslide, even when he was ahead double digits. Sorry about the typing, I am posting from my Blackberry.

the horse race is neck and neck, despite disdain for Republicans and the Bush administration generally.

How about this: "the horse race is neck and neck, despite disdain for Obama and the Democratic Congress, whose poll numbers are in the single digits."

Nah, that would be a balanced story. What was I thinking?

Imagine that this same hypothetical pollster wanted HRC as the nominee. He might just release a likely voters poll on the eve of the convention with a couple of points of secret sauce added to McCain.

Exactly what I was thinking! But the fact remains that there is serious animosity between Obama supporters and Clinton supporters. After a couple decades of national conventions serving as coronation events, such a switcharoo would be like dropping an atom bomb. The Dems would fracture enough that McCain would win in a landslide.

If Billary was to somehow pull this off the images of riots would haunt Election Day.

Final thought: the easy answer to all these problems is for Obama to make Billary his VP and pollsters like Zogby may be trying to assist in creating the pressure.

Obama is going to be like one of those boy bands ((New Kids, Minudo). The media goes wild, huge crowds, then all of a sudden people wake up and are embarrassed to admit they ever listened.

That there is just about a perfect analogy. ROTF.

They CAN get rid of him... it just needs to be done carefully, and allow Hillary to retain those monolithic black votes. They'll find a way to do it, and probably within the next 3-4 weeks.

The way to do it is by making it look like another unforced error by the Obama camp rather than any scheme of theirs.

It would be very subtle. Perhaps along the lines of maneuvering a panicking Team Obama into picking Chuck Hagel, which ostensibly would be to shore up his national security image, but in fact would trigger a revolt of the superdelegates. Allowing her to be on the ballot next week may go down as one of the most colossal blunders in American political history, right up there with Jefferson picking Aaron Burr as his running mate. Thus I would put the chances at Hillary attempting some Machiavellian 11th hour attempt to snatch the nomination back on the convention floor at 5%. Not likely at all, but I would have said 0% last week.

They are trapped. They can’t get rid of Obama, but they can’t win with him either.

Then Operation Chaos has truly succeeded. Bwhahaha.

Polling — depends on the time of the day, who answers the phone, who’s home, who’s walking down the street by the poll-taker while wearing an “Obama 2008” t-shirt, etc.
