With five seats on the State Board of Education up for grabs this year, education advocates say how children learn about evolution hangs in the balance -- and who voters choose could affect Kansas' national reputation.
A frequent flip-flop between moderate and conservative majorities on the 10-member board has resulted in the state changing its science standards four times in the past eight years.
Conservatives have pushed for standards casting doubt on evolution, and moderates have said intelligent design does not belong in the science classroom.
In 2007, a new 6-4 moderate majority removed standards that called evolution into question.
This year, none of the three moderates whose seats are up for election are running again. Only one of the two conservative incumbents is running for re-election...

SBC Leader Alarmed Over Young Adults ‘Dropping Out’ of Churches

August 7, 2006(AgapePress) - The new president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) says he is disturbed that many students in both public and private schools — even Christian private schools — are leaving the church once they graduate.
In 2002, the SBC’s Council on Family Life reported that roughly 88 percent of evangelical children are leaving the church shortly after they graduate from high school. Dr. Frank Page, the denomination's new president, says SBC churches need to counter that statistic by finding ways to make themselves more relatable, more pertinent and significant to students before they graduate.
“We're seeing a societal trend where a large number of young people are opting out of the church,” Page notes. “Estimates of 15 to 20 million people now in America have said they are Christians but they simply don't want to be a part of the church,” he says.
I was wrong though. It wasn’t 80 percent. It was 88 percent.
Doesn't matter a bit to the issue of this thread. Science isn't about religion and doesn't engage in religious reasoning. Not about politics either.
I know that scientists tend to be liberal, even socialist. I read the science oriented sites. Makes no difference to the science though.
Many of the Scientists I work with formerly lived in Communist nations. You will never find a more vociferous foe of Communism than those who have lived under it. Many others that I work with cover the gamut politically, although the university Scientists I knew tended to be liberal, even the religious ones.
I have no doubt there are conservative scientists. The most impressive thing about science is it’s ability to cross boundaries of nation, race and culture. It’s a unifying idea with a unifying methodology.

OK thanks...so they didn’t lose their belief system, or faith or somehow became godless liberals, they just stopped going to a church they grew up in...their parents church.
My own daughter stopped going and she hasn’t even moved out. The church she now goes to is of a far younger group, more contemporary with their music and so forth. I’m all good with that...I’ve been several times and the church is still very much Christ centered.
Which could happen for various reasons, like my own...I joined the Air Force. So when I learned about the Bible and so forth it was often in the ER at 2-3 AM.

My "expertise" comes from reading what the opposition says. I figure if the combined efforts of the major anti-evolution websites can't come up with some research that supports ID, and the major leaders of the movement admit there is no research and no proposals for research and no hypothesis that leads to research, then I don't need a PhD to assert that ID is an empty shell.

What part of the constitution would that be? I put about as much stock in your understanding of the Constitution as your understanding of science and religion!
And as we all know by now court rulings are subject to change. It’s important to understand that Christians are tiring of courts being hi-jacked by godless liberals!
And as Christians further understand their rights...the ACLU is now on notice! How preposterous it is for instance that Los Cruces New Mexico somehow be FORCED to remove crosses from the town’s logo!
