I’m not convinced a Bush visit would be helpful. It would allow the Russians to walk right up to the T’blisi front door.
As soon as Bush left, T’blisi falls.
The military option is the only thing that stops T’blisi from falling now, and that doesn’t seem to be in the works either.
I’m not anxious to see U.S. troops on the ground, but we could thin the Russian herd to a man if we decided to from the air.
President Bush needs to make it clear that the U.S. will respond militarily should Russia take over Georgia. But only after he makes a strong effort to avoid war. His presence in Tblisi tonight or tomorrow would tell the Russians how utterly serious we take this. Anything less and Tblisi falls by the end of the week.
