Why are Freepers Interested in the Chicoms' Olympics? SHOULD we be?
Vanity | 08/10/08 | Mobile Vulgus

Posted on 08/10/2008 6:28:43 AM PDT by Mobile Vulgus

So how should Freepers feel about the Olympics? Should we write about it, post about it or covering it in any way?

I feel that every American (including President Bush) that are in attendance at the Olympics are traitors to democracy and civilization.

These commie bastards are our enemies. Each and every Chinese citizen (and I use that term citizen very euphemistically), each man, woman and child are enemies to the USA, the west, and basic civilization. They look at us as enemies and we should return the favor. Look where pretending that "they really don't mean it" got us where it concerns Muslims!

China should be treated as the lepers that they are, not as useful and legitimate citizens of the international community.

We should have, every western nation should have, boycotted these Olympics once the pliable and most likely bribed Olympic Committee chose China to host the games.

But that's just me.

What will be the consensus of our community?

2008 Beijing Olympics = 1936 Berlin Olympics

1936 was a public-relations disaster for the "master race" because of American participation. Jesse Owens really rained on their parade.

Or did you see that as a BAD thing?

So Americans who have been training for years shouldn’t be able show their superiority because of the place the games are being held? Did you vote for Jimmy Carter?

I say, YEA.

I’m a FReeper, been one for a while.

I will NOT have anyone tell me what is okay to watch or not watch. It is personal freedom. If I remeber correctly, that is something EVERY true FReeper is supposed to be behind, 100%.

If I choose to boycott or not to boycott, it is MY choice. I happen to like the Olympics, and I have ever since I was old enough to know what they were.

I especailly like the Games when an American individual or team wins a gold medal. I never get tired of hearing the “Star-Spangled Banner” being played as the flag is raised, or watching the faces of our men and women as they stand there, often in tears, knowing that they just won one for themselves and the United States of America.

I respect the thoughts of other FReepers and their decisions to not watch. I would hope you’ll respect my decision to take them in and enjoy them.

Yes, the Chinese are run by a Communist dictaorship. We, however are Americans. We can choose what WE want to do.
I choose to watch.

event? Sorry,I couldn’t resist.

Kia Ora!

(big grin!) I think they should — the World Champion has been from New Zealand for many years. What’s the rule for Olympic Events, anyrate? Is it that the event needs to be played by minimum ten countries, or something like that?

"And they spent $300 million on their opening ceremonies compared to $30 million for Athens in 2004."

I did happen to watch part of the opening ceremony and thought it was pretty good. The Chinese can do fireworks.

No projection. You're a sick person.

Look at who started the references to kids, 3rd grade and diapers, "little boy", that was YOU bucko.

Everyone in this thread can see you for what you are.

You need to quit embarrassing yourself. You whine about 'staying on the subject' but you're unable to refute or even argue against the responses on this thread that oppose our participation in the ChiCom Olympics. All you're capable of is name calling. You're an intellectual vacuum.

You want to have a serious discussion?

You start by NOT telling someone to "shut up fool!" and try to refute their argument with reason and logic, but you've already proven you're completely unfamiliar with that approach.

I’m not sure of the rules for the events, but they’re taking away men’s baseball after this year.

So far, I have seen both McCain ads and Obama ads, and both have truly been on evenly throughout the Olympics.

I hope NBC can keep up that evenness. It's got to be killing them to have to show McCain ads. ;-)

> You’re not even an American. LOL!

I bet neither are you. You’re probably a ChiCom plant.

> Just a NZ wuss. Real tough guy, eh!

I sure bet you could teach me a lesson, ay. How to be a REAL MAN, Austin-style.

> LOL! Do you have a lisp?

Would you like me better if I did? Seems to me you have a pre-occupation with sexual deviancy and homosexuality. Are you getting lonely up there in Austin?

What the hell is with the childish, schoolyard, “gay” taunts. Don’t you people have better things to do on a Sunday... like maybe actually comment on the ACTUAL thread!?

...while keeping Rhythmic Gymnastics, no doubt. Baseball is a real sport, rhythmic gymnastics isn’t. Just goes to show what a pathetic JOKE the Olympics has become, ay.

“Or did you see that as a BAD thing?”

What on earth are you talking about? My point is about how both Olympics (’36 and ‘08) are being conducted to give legitimacy to genocidal regimes.

That explains it: he’s lonely. That’s why he asked me if I speak with a lisp in #97... makes perfect sense!

Jeez, if I was living in Austin, I’d be worried: he might molester me or something. I might even get stalked! Good thing it’s a long swim from Texas to New Zealand, ay!

You seem to be more about bullying, than tallying.

This is a ‘vortex thread’, meant to sucker people into the vortex of arguing over something meaningless.

Gack.

Both of you, knock it off. You’ve already dragged this thread into the Smokey Backroom with your flame war. The mods won’t hesitate to take further actions if warranted.

Not to mention, I might accidentally watch one of Obama’s stupid ads (which NBC probably gave him a discount on).

Surprisingly, the bulk have been McCain ads.

I posted a relevant and on-topic post to this thread at #46. Nobody seemed to want to engage on the merits or lack thereof regarding our participation or interest in the ChiCom Olympics. That alone speaks volumes about where this thread was destined to go.

When the name calling began, I responded appropriately and in defense of my fellow Freeper (that's you Diehard! ;)

If someone wants to mix it up with name calling, I can mix it up with the best of them, but that's not why I'm here, and my original post #46 ought to be proof enough of that.

If everyone else behaves, I can be the most well behaved Freeper you ever saw, and I prefer it that way.

But if someone wants to start throwing chairs around the room instead of engaging in actual discussion and debate?

They should be prepared to duck.
