Lieberman ‘on McCain short-list’
Financial Times ^ | 08/09/2008 | Stephanie Kirchgaessner in Washington

"Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee who has endorsed John McCain, is being vetted as a potential running mate for the Republican presidential hopeful, according to an adviser to Mr McCain’s campaign."

"Conservatives would be pissed as hell – I think you would have a revolt, but sometimes John does what John wants to do,” the McCain adviser said.

My point was exactly that: that regardless of who McCain appoints to the judiciary, it’s clear that Obambi’s picks would definitely be worse for the nation.

That’s not to say McCain’s picks will be good. But they will be better. And “better” is better when it comes to our country.

So my question was rhetorical, to make the point you just made in your post: i.e., that people who are concerned about McCain’s picks ought to be equally concerned with the fact that Obambi’s picks definitely will be worse (as you said, a matter of degree).

Thanks.

You made a helpful clarification to my post.

I was speaking to the issue of voting for McCain. I conclude from history that candidates such as McCain emerge, particularly in the Republican party, when national security issues are at the fore, or some kind of mop-up of national security operations are needed (as with Eisenhower).

My comment was addressed to those who believe that voting for McCain, who is not as conservative as some would like, means WE ARE DOOMED.

I disagree with that.

All that said, once we turn our sights to the impact of Obambi and his party on our nation, should he win, well, yes, the picture definitely does get more gloomy.

I can’t say I see the doom in an Obambi presidency that you do, but I see enough that there is no way on God’s green earth that I will not be pulling the lever for McCain, if only to do my part to stop Obambi (and to add my anti-Obami, anti-Rat vote to the NATIONAL popular vote).

“Caucusing with” doesn’t count toward a majority.

It takes more than 50 “R’s” to make a majority in the Senate.

They can be any kind of “R’s” in existence, but they must be “R’s.”

In states where there is not and never will be any such thing as a conservative, we still need people to vote for the R candidates so we can constitute a majority and open the way for some more conservative R’s from other parts of the country to head committees, etc.

We don’t need a majority to cause trouble. We need a few determined House members.

Wow. I am at a loss for words.

I will vote for McCain, not because I think he is good for America but because he is better for America than Obamaosama, he is none the less still bad for America, and I don't expect any decent judge candidates from him, IMO.

P.S. Remember Harriet Meyers! If the President is a Republican, then the Republican grassroots can raise hell and at least have some chance of influencing the President.

If the President is a Rat, forgetaboutit. Totally.

Wrong.

There is at least some chance of the party of the president influencing the president.

Always is, always will be. Because the president is human.

I take it you do not dispute that there is NO chance of the Republican grassroots influencing an Obambi administration.

One of my favorite illustrations on point:

It’s the Super Bowl and it’s the Giants v. the Patriots.

You’re going in to the stadium and a pollster asks you who you support to win the Super Bowl.

You say the Ravens.

Yeah, you can do that . . .

Your vote matters for the national popular vote. Think about it.

Q: And the national popular vote counts for?

A: Nothing.

Judging by his record, the Democrats would influence McCain.

“Caucusing with” doesn’t count toward a majority.

If this were true, then the Dems wouldn’t have a majority as Sanders from Vt and Lieberman are Independents. Actually Sanders is a commie..so..he’s a c from vt.

Well, IMO, Obama should't be allowed to get within 300 ft. of the White House....let alone the Oval Office. They can line up at the Northeast gate with the rest of the tour.

They are NOT worthy. And I'm confident the People will convey that to them on November 4th.

I think this is really wrong headed. Given McCain's age, the veep choice is more important this year than in other elections. People want a veep that would be able to take over in the case of McCain's unfortunate demise. Placing a Liberal on the ticket as President-in-Waiting is NOT going to attract conservatives and moderates.

I agree with you on that.

If I were writing the script, Lieberman would resign like Spiro Agnew did...and we could appoint a genuine Conservative. (Although with a President Lieberman POTUS, as Iran joins the Nuclear Club would be interesting to say the least).

Because I'm afraid for this election cycle...marquee SOCONS need to keep an arm's length away from the spotlight and work the Smokey Backrooms. Let's not give the MSM or RATS a target.

As much as we both would like another Ronald Reagan to watch over the nation for the next 4 years...right now 'he' doesn't exist. So...let's win the Oval Office and get ready to beat the crap out of Pelosi, Reid & Friends in 2010.

You mean, forced to resign under a cloud of corruption? ;-)

...and we could appoint a genuine Conservative. (Although with a President Lieberman POTUS, as Iran joins the Nuclear Club would be interesting to say the least).

I don't find anything about a President Lieberman to be "interesting." He's a liberal, through and through. Appoint a conservative? HAH!

Because I'm afraid for this election cycle...marquee SOCONS need to keep an arm's length away from the spotlight and work the Smokey Backrooms. Let's not give the MSM or RATS a target.

Personally, I'm a fiscal conservative. But I don't share your distaste for SoCons, nor do I think they need to be kept in the closet (or "smokey backroom". You seem genuinely embarrassed by social conservatives. I don't share the views of SoCons who want to impose nanny state policies on the people or those who join with McCain in pushing nonsense like cap-and-trade legilsation or want to give special rights and benefits to "God's children" in the form of amnesty. But I have found that those types are mostly in the minority--as is McCain.

As to being "afraid"... voting based on "fear" is no more a reason to vote than those who do so based on "hope," IMO. All of this emotional hubbub the campaigns generate to attract the sheeple shows how much they have been successful in dumbing down the electorate. A sad time for our nation, for sure.

As much as we both would like another Ronald Reagan to watch over the nation for the next 4 years...right now 'he' doesn't exist. So...let's win the Oval Office and get ready to beat the crap out of Pelosi, Reid & Friends in 2010.

The ability to "win" went out the door the day McCain got the nomination. From this point forward, the name of the game is in defense. We need to oppose the liberal policies coming out of either one of the fools running for office.

calcowgirl...I think we had a pleasant exchange on a heated thread a year or so ago...and I told you how there wasn't much difference in our politics...other than the dreaded topic of immigration reform.

You are SO close to being "perfect". ;^)

Yes, I am embarrassed by some strident social conservatives. I started feeling queasy about some of the vocal SOCONS during Elian Gonzalez. When they pi$$ed on Father's Rights over some stupid idea it was their duty to 'save a child from Fidel's Communism'.

Then, I threw up lunch and dinner because of them during the Schiavo Debacle...when suddenly the sacred Rule of Law didn't matter. Time to go judge shopping and all that crap. [Since Terry passed, nobody has taken action to change Florida Law...so much for 'Principles'].

Their stance on Comprehensive Immigration Reform sealed the deal for me, when they clung once again to the "Rule of Law".

Once again...not all social conservatives fall into this category. But too many nonetheless. Enough to scare the hell out of the average voter.

With that I agree.

There is no way, shape or form Obambi should be President.

That’s why I’m voting against him by voting for McCain.

Even if true, it’s indisputable that conservatives have ZERO chance of influencing a Rat president.

That’s not chopped liver.
