So, why do I speak of peaceful Muslims?
Well, there are Christians who believe that Christianity is the religion of male on male anal sex. They wouldn't describe it that way, of course, but when they attack orthodox Christians as hateful bigots for opposing gay marriage and portray it as completely compatible with Christ's teachings, then that is what they are saying. In addition to that silliness, you have "Christians" who believe that Christianity is basically Marxism 1.0, that it's a New Age exercise, or that Jesus was into white supremacy.
So, if someone can misunderstand Christianity so profoundly that they think those things, why wouldn't a Muslim be able to believe that Muhammad brought a message of peace to the world?
Oh, and will you be telling or FReeper comrade a_Turk that he is a homicidal Muslim? You are talking about my response to his post, and talking about his religion. You are saying that a secular country that has been a NATO ally for decades is either full of homicidal fanatics or has been "militarily and economically crushed." Will you clue him in?

Of course they could, BUT, that is how brainwashing happens. Start with a simple, yet, believable and supportable idea then incrementally build the story to where you want it. That is how cults are built.
The question isn’t if a mUslim can originally find Islam a place they can call home; the question is what does that home become once the brainwashing begins.
