Interesting. Dunno?
You beat me
We’ve been promising that we’d help them if they needed it. I don’t have a problem with someone asking us to live up to our promises.
That’s pretty funny :)
Oil prices are actually down $2 a barrel.
Echoes of another August ... 1914. Austrian archduke assassinated in Serbia, Austria threatens Serbia, Russia defends Serbia, Germany defends Austria, ... "those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it".
I don’t want to see that slaughter again... On the other hand, I can’t help but think that it might not be the worst thing to happen to Europe either...
For how long?
Could be a plan for Russia to boost oil prices. It’s a win win for them.
Yeah ... that, (troop withdrawl) and our two carriers deployed to the region.
Coinkydink fer sure.
Oil prices are based on the future, not the present.
“Oil prices are actually down $2 a barrel.”

Oil isn’t so much down.
The USD is on a roll, for a couple weeks now.
“Wonder if this will wake up the euro trash. Better not expect us to save them from the bear again.
Poland I would support.”
Georgia is very pro-US and a valuable ally. This could easily escalate.
The part of Georgia in question is a bit out of range for carrier aviation in the Persian Gulf, if I’m doing the sums right.
Perhaps the Chosen One can talk to Putin and make this all better?
Bush and Pootie probably discussed this weeks ago and have a deal. We get (tepid) support on Iran sanctions and they get whatever the H311 they want in the Caucuses.
Don’t see Georgia’s Air Force lasting very long against what the Russians could throw at them — if this thing goes more than a day or two I don’t see how Georgia expects to do much against Russia once its Air Force is wiped out......
Georgian Air Forces consists of Aviation and Air Defense.
.... The strength of Air Forces is 1 813 military and civilian personnel.

“US Army and USMC were there very recently for training... I am trying to find info if they are still there. This is not good.”
The article someone linked stated that they’d arrived July 15 for a two-week exercise. I think Russia was smart enough to not start hostilities while they were still there, that’d be an excellent way to swing American sentiment towards Georgia (thought it’s already mostly that way).
Make that 100 Russian tanks invading a sovereign nation.
Let's hope it ends up "The Road to Basra". I think we should help Georgia in whatever means necessary. They are being invaded by a foreign country.
