We who obsess over universal health coverage may soon confront a startling development: The only candidate on a major-party presidential ticket to have proposed and implemented a universal plan could well be a Republican. I speak of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, now high on the list of John McCain's possible running mates.

Oh, my melting heart. :-)
That should be every decent family loving Republican’s slogan
“I’m no John Edwards”
John is a sleazeball.
Cheating on his cancer striken wife.
MORE. (Need I answer? LOL).
A beautiful sunday, Miss GOP_Lady! :-)
Haha I love that bottom pic!
It’s a matter of projection. Who did you project in your mind to be President in 2009 while thinking about it in 2004? Do you honestly believe in 2008 you can project 2013?
It’s McCain or Obama right now (unless Hillary takes him out). Reality is a pill we all take.
See, that’s the problem. It depends on your definition of liberal. According to at least a plurality of self-described conservatives Romney was the most appealing to conservatives in the GOP primary. So your statement just doesn’t cut it. There’s something else.
Examine the record and accomplishments of Mitt Romney while Governor of Massachusetts and you will find that he applied and practiced core conservative principles of fiscal and social conservatism in one of the most liberal states of the U.S. It required courage to take the conservative positions and actions he did in the face of a hostile political environment.
You said: It depends on your definition of liberal.
Depends on what “is” is huh.
“Picking Romney is a big loser for McCain.”
McCain needs to pick Palin as his VP choice. This way the oil issue comes to the surface and there is nothing the mediacrats will be able to do about it.
Anyone who would come to that conclusion would have to be delusional.
Yes, which is why your pat answer that Romney is a liberal doesn’t cut it. He won self-described “very conservative” voters in almost every GOP primary he contested.
I frankly have no idea what you are talking about. My contention is that if McCain picks Romney for VP, McCain will lose. He needs to pick a conservative running mate.
Why? I’d love to see you run for governer of any New England state, much less Massachusetts, as a die hard conservative. I think it’s fair to say that Romney didn’t do that. And it’s just as fair to say considering that he did many conservative things for that miserable commonwealth.
You are correct. He ran, and governed as a liberal. And as Rush Limbaugh says if you want to know how they will govern look at their record not at what they say.
There are several good choices. And as I have stated on other threads, I think he should wait until nObama makes his choice because strategically change who his choice should be. All else being equal I like Sarah Palin: conservative, female, Alaska oil.
Fair enough, the belief is Romney could make MI a red state and make inroads in Mass. Taking Cantor from Virginia is another big option. (I thought you were die hard against the GOP this go around and apologise if i’m incorrect).
