We who obsess over universal health coverage may soon confront a startling development: The only candidate on a major-party presidential ticket to have proposed and implemented a universal plan could well be a Republican. I speak of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, now high on the list of John McCain's possible running mates.

Heh. - We went to different schools together.
But, however nice she sounds, Palin could not add one single electoral vote to the tally, or take one disputed state from Hussein obama and put it in our column.
I do not want us to be mousetrapped like the Dems were with Ferraro.
I LOVE MITT
mccain is such a dufus he will probably pick eddie cantor (cracks me up,wasn’t there an actor by that name with goofy eyes in the 30s/40s who was a comic) sounds just right for mcpain.
Mitt is perfect for the job.
McCain seems like he wants to win.
In the end I think Mitt will forgive McCain and take the job.
Mitt always puts the country before his own personal ambitions.
LOL! Not here -- this is MA, remember? As the legistature keeps "fixing" it, it'll get worse and worse. Has a whole state ever gone into receivership? Stay tuned . . .
Is it true that Romney’s company moved manufacturing jobs out of Ohio? If true, they will have to have damage control to lure the blue collar Dems there who may cross over.
I say we put it to a simple poll question here: Will John McCain picking Mitt Romney as the vice presidential nominee make you more likely or less likely to vote for McCain?
Romney’s Dad brought lots of blue collar jobs to Michigan.
More likely
I am an optimist an a believer in America. Even if it gets worse before it gets better, it will eventually get fixed because we are not a nation of quitters.
But I have noted that our FR polls have not borne out the reality in the political landscape outside of FR of late.
Those polls certainly give credence to the idea that picking Romney would shore up McCain’s right.
I would find out if it were true, and what the circumstances were, before I spread the rumor.
Romney is whatever he needs to be at the moment.
No, but this one is ideal for us because it is us arguing who will win over the solid right not infatuated with McCain. FR would be an ideal sample of the solidly right.
I agree.
And in Michigan he’s getting half of the Very Conservative vote with many other Republicans on the ballot.
If he and McCain ran on one ticket.. I would expect those numbers to go even higher.
I think it’s a stretch to say that his charisma may actually be a good offset to that of the Miss I, uh. In my estimation, it would be more accurate to say that he would outrank any Dem VP in the charisma dep’t. because we don’t look at the whole ticket in picking for whom to vote.
Perfect then because we need him to be a conservative with private and executive experience, pull in several states, a ready-made support and donor base, relative youth and good looks, and a sharp attacker against Obama. To our good fortune he is those things. :)
Romney would clobber any potential Dem VP in a debate.
I’m convinced we can win Michigan with Mitt. That’s a good place to be.
