Muqtada Al-Sadr Calls on Shi’ite Clerics to Issue Fatwas against Agreements with U.S.
Muqtada Al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist Movement, called on the Iraqi government not to sign a security agreement with the U.S., promising to support it if it refrains from signing. Al-Sadr also called upon Shi’ite clerics to issue fatwas against any agreement between the government and the occupier. In addition, he urged his followers not to carry arms unless they are members of the movement’s special forces, and to refrain from harming civilians.
