Coalition Forces in Afghanistan Capture 3 Militants

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2008 – Coalition forces in Afghanistan captured three suspected militants yesterday during an operation designed to disrupt terrorist networks in Paktika province, military officials said.

As part of the operation, coalition troops searched compounds in Urgun district targeting a militant responsible for rocket attacks against coalition forces.

In other news, a terrorist was killed and an Afghan woman from the Zarghun Shah district was medically evacuated, officials said. The evacuee as injured Aug. 9 during a coalition forces’ operation to disrupt militant activities in Paktika province.

The operation targeted a militant who has attacked Afghan and coalition forces and is linked to foreign fighter operations in the area.

Coalition forces identified the targeted militant maneuvering near the compound and killed him in an air strike.

Coalition forces then identified a separate militant group maneuvering against them and responded with small-arms fire. It was during this engagement that the woman, who was moving with the militant group, was injured. Another woman and four children were unharmed.

The injured woman’s condition required immediate medical evacuation. Coalition forces coordinated for a male family member to travel to the hospital. Coalition medical personnel immediately treated the woman’s injuries at the scene and transported her to a coalition medical facility for further care.

During the operation, coalition forces discovered and confiscated several pieces of military equipment, weapons, and ammunition.
