Let me get this straight: We Republicans controlled the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives for six years in a row, and not once did our Republican leadership keep Congress in session for the purpose of enacting or even debating a comprehensive energy policy that would have avoided the mess that we are in now, and yet I’m supposed to view today’s events as something other than political grandstanding during the silly season. I don’t think so.

Alas we could not get 60 votes in the Senate to drill in ANWAR due to certain GOP Senators particularly a couple from Maine.

The price of gas has changed the equation considerably. This is not about grandstanding as it is about being responsive to the concerns of the American people. Attitudes have changed considerably over the past year about drilling offshore and in ANWR. The Dems have been putting roadblocks on access to domestic supplies of energy for years. Now we have a crisis. You can’t compare what was happening in 2006 to today.

Gas was affordable up until Pelosi took office. It can certainly be argued that the GOP lacked the foresight to see this price escalation, but unfortunately, the country was busy responding to 9/11 and fighting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, all the while dealing with domestic obstacles put up by the Defeatocrats.

Other folks have given me their similar thoughts that Republicans have done nothing, and that this is grand standing.

Absolutely; both sides are behaving atrociously. This should have been resolved years ago, with foreign oil sources offering dirt-cheap gasoline. Sigh ... at least we’re getting some traction now.

When Republicans had control, gas was a couple bucks a gallon cheaper and Clinton's executive order banning offshore drilling had not yet been rescinded.

But I understand where you are coming from. The Republicans SUCKED when they had the power. But what can we do about that now? Congressional Republicans are beginning to sack up and show some testicular fortitude. Isn't that what you want? We can't turn back the clock and undo the Republican suckiness of yesterday, so we should support today's rabble rousing as a positive sign.
