World Terrorism: News, History and Research Of A Changing World #12 Security Watch
Homeland Security National Terror Alert ^ | July 28, 2008 | Homeland Security News

Is U.S. Bioterror Attack Just A Matter of Time?

The overriding question is whether the U.S. is “ready” for a bioterror attack. The answer could well rely on the “other” question of what bio-agent and what’s the source? In 1991, 40,000 Russian scientists dispersed throughout the World, with knowledge of what the U.S.S.R. was doing in chemical and biological weapons. The question is to whom did they sell their knowledge? Some believe former Soviet scientists sold technology to countries like Iran, Syria, and North Korea. Lurking is the spectre of al-Qaeda, a group that the Pentagon says continues to pursue biological weapons.

Another scenario is an outbreak of a pandemic. How would the U.S. deal with an infectious disease outbreak? The picture, despite reassurances, is not pretty. Until now, the U.S. has experienced two major biological attacks.

In 1984, the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his followers attempted to take over the town of the Dalles, Oregon by contaminating salad bars in the town. In 2001, there was the as yet unsolved mystery of the anthrax letters that killed five people.

But the question of bioterrorism extends to potential threats against our food supply and our clean water resources. It also extends to the threat of outbreaks of diseases in our animals populations. Here, the concern are diseases that attack animals but that can jump to humans. These are referred to as zoonotic diseases. The World Health Organization defines zonnotic diseases as:

Window on Eurasia: Moscow Began Preparing for Georgian War Four Years
Ago, Illarionov Says

Paul Goble

Eagles Meer, PA, October 1 – The Russian government began preparing for
the invasion of Georgia four years ago as part of a more general attack
on the West and the West’s democratic, free market, and security ideas
in the post-Soviet states, according to former Putin economics advisor
and more recently Kremlin critic Andrei Illarionov.

In a speech delivered to the Cato Institute in Ukraine on September 4
but posted online only this week, Illarionov described what Moscow’s
political leaders had said about Georgia over that period and what
Russian intelligence services had done against Georgia well before the
first of August (abkhazeti.info/news/1222739236.php).

And he described precisely what Russian forces had been doing in the
weeks leading up to the outbreak of hostilities and what they did after
that time, actions that in both cases show just how false are all
Russian claims that Tbilisi started the war and that Moscow intervened
to defend its citizens or the right of nations to self-determination.

If one examines this history, Illarionov said, then it becomes clear why
Moscow went to war against Georgia and why it is so critical that
everyone understand that “the Russian-Georgian war is part of another,
very major war that Russia intends to launch as a responsive strike to
the West.”

After disposing of Russia’s “propaganda” arguments about its invasion of
Georgia – the defense of Russian citizens, the right of nations to
self-determination, and the supposed Georgian genocide of Ossetians –
Illarionov focused on two things: the reasons Moscow decided to move
against Georgia after the “rose” revolution and the specific steps it took.

According to Illarionov, the reasons for the Russian-Georgian war are to
be found in Moscow’s reaction to the changes Georgia has undertaken in
the last four years and to Mikhail Saakashvili’s success in restoring
Tbilisi’s control over the Ajar region which had more often looked to
Russia than to Georgia.

Over the last four years, Illarionov said, “a contemporary, European,
democratic state, responsible to the population, has been created.” And
he added that as a specialist on economic reform, he was prepared to
assert that there has not been any other country in the world which “has
carried out so many reforms in such a short time.”

Those reforms, the former Kremlin advisor said, made it possible for
Mikhail Saakashvili to turn from Moscow to the West and to indicate that
he wanted his country to become a member of NATO and other Western
institutions. Such goals were unacceptable to the Russian leadership,
and consequently, it set as its “task” the removal of Saakashvili.

After the Georgian president “resolved” the Ajar problem, Moscow “began
to think” about replacing him. In December 2005, the Kremlin ordered the
heads of Russian energy companies to begin a blockade of Georgia, but
when that effort failed, the Russian government turned to other means.

Several pipelines and electric power lines passing from Russia to
Georgia were blown up, actions that many blamed on Islamic terrorists
but which, Illarionov said, investigations showed were in fact the work
of Russian special services. And “after that, there was an attempt at
the liquidation of the leader of the [Georgian] opposition,” presumably
by the same agencies.

In 2006, the Georgian special services arrested several Russian agencies
but, Illarionov noted, “Georgia followed diplomatic etiquette and
without any noise sent them back to Moscow.” Moscow stepped up its
penetration efforts, and in September, Tbilisi announced the arrest of
four Russian agents, and Moscow responded with an economic blockade.

Over the same period, Russia “strengthened its military presence in
Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” and Russia diplomats told their colleagues
quite openly that Moscow would engage in military actions in Georgia
before September 2008, statements that many were inclined to dismiss but
that proved to be quite true.

And then Illarionov details the specific steps from July through
mid-August that show that Russia was planning to move well before
Saakashvili transferred his forces into South Ossetia, the action that
the Russian government continues to insist was the proximate cause of
the war.

Most of the details he provided about that period have been reported in
the Western media, although they, like Illarionov’s speech in Kyiv
itself, have not been given much attention in the mainstream Russian
media. (On that failure, see the discussion of Illarionov’s remarks at
www.kavkazcenter.com/russ/content/2008/09/30/61325.shtml.)

But the former Kremlin advisor’s conclusion is if not new at least more
clearly articulated than those which have been offered by most others.
He pointed out that Russia continues to want a change of leadership in
Tbilisi because for the Kremlin, “the western choice of Georgia is
unacceptable.”

Consequently, Illarionov said, Moscow’s war against Western influence in
the post-Soviet states and hence against the West itself has just begun.
From the Kremlin’s perspective, Georgia was the weak link, a place where
unlike in the Baltic countries or even Ukraine, it could act.

But because it did not achieve its goal in Georgia, Moscow will continue
to push there and elsewhere because Illarionov suggests, the Russian
leadership knows that if the Western combination of democracy and free
markets succeed in these countries, not only will Russia’s influence
there decline but the power of Russia’s current leaders will be at risk
as well.

Would you like to start the on-going food thread?

Well, it's not like I don't have enough to do.....

But it is important.

Think up a name. Contaminated Foods and Drugs Ping List? Food and Medicine Safety Ping List? Something different? I don't see why it couldn't include both food and medicine for now. Maybe if the list gets to unmanageable it could be split.

Just for the record, it looks like there'd be considerable overlap with the China ping list for anyone who'd want to be on it.

Anyone interested in helping hold the list?

Nuclear Terrorism Is No. 1 Threat, ElBaradei Says (Update1)

By Jonathan Tirone

Sept. 30 (Bloomberg) — The likelihood that terrorists will detonate a nuclear weapon poses the greatest risk to world security, surpassing proliferation threats from Iran and North Korea, United Nations atomic chief Mohamed ElBaradei said.

``There is a lot of interest on the part of extremist groups to obtain nuclear material,’’ ElBaradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said at a scientific forum today in Vienna during the annual conference of the 145 nations in the IAEA. ``It’s the No. 1 security threat right now.’’

There was a thread with one of his poems in particular here at FR a few weeks(?) ago. Those on the thread were dissecting the poem, and there were some very disturbing illusions within it... Several references to what many saw as relating to homosexual sex.

Also, we all firmly believed that the man he was talking about within the poem was none other than Frank Marshall Davis. He spoke in the poem of drinking Seagram’s and “pop” reciting poems (Davis was a poet and author - besides being a Communist pedophile). In the book, “Dreams of my Father” Obama relates that he and his grandfather would go to Davis’ home, share whiskey and listen to Davis recite his poetry.

Granted, this is all speculation, and in the case of poetry what people are thinking when they are writing and what other people see in the finished product is not always the same. However, as a (somewhat novice) student of literature, and as someone who always received praise from my teachers in regards to being able to dissect and understand poetry in particular, I feel pretty confident that we were on target as far as the things we deduced from reading the poem itself. We were all (about 5 of us) on the same page...

Just thought I would share that with all on the thread here. It may be “bad poetry” and I will not argue with that at all! LOL But, it does provide a rather disturbing and scary glimpse into Obama’s thinking, his subconscious, and the way he saw the world and himself - at least at that time in his life... People show more than they think when they write poems! ;-)

Just FYI — There are a lot of “rumors” and such coming from very religious types that points to an event occurring within the next few days. In particular some are pointing to October 7th (perhaps the 8th in Israel with the time zones being what they are).

I am not able to relate a lot of what they are saying because I don’t understand it all myself - however, historically these dates, and those surrounding it are very important, and as you can see from the list you put up a great many monumental things have happened on these dates. Some believe this is because of the feast dates on the Jewish calendar (which do move in relation to the Christian calendar that the world follows officially) — again, I’m not the right person to go into details on this as I don’t have enough education regarding these things in particular. I just thought it was worth mentioning on the thread... :)

FWIW....

And maybe I am not like most FReepers. But when I scroll along looking at recent posts...and I come across some huge giant post such as yours....I just scroll on by.

It loses it's impact...with being so cluttered and long.

Of course...that's just my small opinion.

fwiw-

Is a list of historical events, for today thru the 6th, tomorrow I will have the 7th.

A few years ago, I got the idea in my head, that when we were given a date to watch, that the attack would come 2 days before or afterwards.

Can I prove it, NO, but it kept happening and stuck in my mind.

I did know they were talking about threats of attacks, some say it will happen before the election and others say afterwards.

It is difficult to second guess them.

But then the communists did attack, only a few days before the election, and it did throw it, wasn’t that in Spain?

It was only 2 or 3 years ago.

The only sure thing is that they will attack, every time they can, any place that they can do it.

Just thought I would share that with all on the thread here. It may be “bad poetry” and I will not argue with that at all! LOL But, it does provide a rather disturbing and scary glimpse into Obama’s thinking, his subconscious, and the way he saw the world and himself - at least at that time in his life... People show more than they think when they write poems! ;-)<<<

I thought the poem, ugly and confusing, I would have not considered it poetry.

I do not know if Obama is more dangerous to the world, if he is elected or if he looses, it is not going to be something I want to see happen.

If he looses, there will be attacks, he has links to so many different types of terrorists..........

in my opinion of course.

Thanks for posting your posts here, as there will be some of us who did not know “the rest of the story”.

Food and Medicine Safety Ping List? <<<

Would be my choice, as it is easy to remember.

LOL, you are talking ping list and I was thinking of one thread that keeps collecting the reports, like this and the food thread that I keep posting on.

It may take time to go back through 5,000 posts, but it can be done and often we have a date in mind that we saw it.

That would give us the information in one place, as I know that I have missed many pings, too tired to check them or if some one posts certain types of photos and jumping around images to me, as a ping, it will freeze my ping box and all is lost past that point.

Guess that I am lazy, I like to see it all in a file and not in a hundred different spots.

The on going master thread does not stop the individual threads, they just get linked on the on going thread.

Or so I think, is what I am thinking.

LOL, and you can still have your ping lists.......

We all have our ideas of what works.

This was meant to be a collection of the war on terror, for the world, as a collection point of history and news and the many facets of terrorism.

If I came to this thread and did not know it, I would read it backwards.

I pass many of the threads, that contain little more than the original post, but some of them have amazing research by a large number of people and those hold my interest.

But the main thing is thanks for coming to read at least once, and I do hope you will return.

I think you’re right about Spain. I remember reading a short while ago that they actually went so far as to declare some kind of “truce” with the terrorists after the Madrid Bombings. They agreed not to support us in Iraq/Afghanistan/WOT in exchange for a promise not to be attacked again. I expect Obama - if he becomes President (God forbid!) would do the same...

Dear Cashill Newsletter Readers,

Time-Warner, a conglomerate that donated $338,527 to Obama’s campaign, had the following youtube video pulled due to alleged copyright infringement issues. It is the one to which I sent you earlier this morning. It’s possible the other side might have felt threatened by its message. Fortunately, the video maker has since re-posted:

Burning Down the House: What Caused our Economic Crisis?

“This video is an informative look at the factors that are causing our current financial and economic crisis. It discusses policy changes 13 years ago that unleashed the sub-prime mortgage-backed securities market, which accelerated prices erratically, inviting speculation and loose lending practices which were both condoned and encouraged by existing regulation and carried out by risk-blind executives and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”

I do not know the author — other than he/she is determined to get the word out. You’ll understand why:

I didn't read it.........Although...I gather it's much of what I've already read here...or somewhere else.

I doubt many FReepers do actually read these long posts.

It's too long.

And it's too cluttered.

Enough said....I understand your stance...

Again.....just IMHO.

That is as I also remember it.

And the communist party won the election.

Everyone forgets that half of America voted for Al Gore and they will vote for whoever the communist party tells them to vote for........in my opinion.
