It has changed into a fascist super-state.
Communists lay claim for the state to all the means of production.
Fascism maintains a facade of private ownership, while retaining complete and utter control over it all anyway.
Both are Godless socialist tyrannies, just put together a bit differently.
Scanning this thread it is apparent that more and more people are figuring out that the above is true.
Is this 1936 all over again?
"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana
Considering the fact that there are far more Christians in China now than there are Christians in America, the institution of such a godly form of government is not impossible.
Neither did India, or Indonesia, or many other "developing nations" where many rights and freedoms as well as democratic and politically pluralistic systems have been established, institutionalized and made foundational.
If "cultural tradition" was a foundational answer then Taiwan must be some kind of "cultural" aberration, TO YOU (as well as we know it is to the mainland dictators). You are obviously speaking for them.
Those of us who know history know that the "culture and its values are relative" mime is just that, a rhetorical invention, a dialectic mime, used as a template by Marxists as a defense of its third world dictators.
The Falun Gong, on the other hand, are a dangerous cult, and not just to the ruling class in Beijing.
Any idea if I can get a webcast or copy of the Senior Pastor’s sermon from last Sunday at 1st Baptist Church of Bejing?
Communist thugs lie.

Attack on an American volunteer by anti-Carrefour mob in Zhuzhou, Hunan
"The cab driver was shouting at him to get out. Then they started hitting the car.
The crowd was shouting "kill him! kill the Frenchman."" (he was actually an American but small difference to a government hired mob)
Robert; you’ve been here - on FreeRep - before, and under a different user name; and often writing on this same theme - “China is really O.K.”; haven’t you?!?!?! What do you do: take all your summer vacations in China so you can pick up your new orders from your handlers?
....wow....now when have I ever blamed America for anything committed by the Chinese government? I simply disagree with a perspective, by some in America, that feels China should be kept in a bottle.
Honestly - I cant understand why the mods let transparent trolls like you and the other one post one propaganda point after another here.
I'm not a troll. The purpose of a troll is to post responses to incite other posters. That is not my intention. I simply want to show, that there are other paradigms and perspectives out there.
It has surprised me how angry people become when someone suggests that China is no longer a communist country. They think that by stripping China of that label, I am somehow validating what the government is doing. I have never denied the existence of human rights violations in China; to the contrary, I have often written about them. There are two many Joe Mcarthy’s out here who can’t wait to call someone like me a Communist sympathizer just because I write one article about changes that have taken place in China. It’s utter paranoia...
Cool, now there are two of us. ;)
China has become more capitalist than the United States, but remains more authoritarian. The difference is that they seem to be moving in the right direction at the same high speed that we are moving in the wrong direction.
Wow. I have no idea how you got that out of my comments.
I wasn’t attacking you. Sorry. I should have directed it to you and ALL. You happened to agree with me about China not being a communist country and I was just pointing out that I was surprised by the angry reactions that this opinion has caused here on the board.
Does that include freedom and liberty complete with all associated costs? Even risig up against their totalitarian government at the price of life and limb?
Are they really becoming that committed or is the economic improvement simply providing a convenient Band-Aid for their long oppression?
Are they fooling themselves? And with all due respect....are you?
No problem.
The second bloodiest war in history was fought in China 1850 - 1864. The Taiping Rebellion was led by Hong Xiuquan who claimed to be the younger brother of Jesus.
I have no illusions about China being some sort of Shagri-La
Ironic choice of words in a post defending China's treatment of Tibetans.
If you haven't read it yet, I suggest Kundun.
Perhaps you could pick up a copy in a bookstore while you're there.
;~)
The irony was intentional. And I do have some first hand insight about what’s happening in Tibet and other nearby provinces.
What is your first hand insight about what’s happening in Tibet?
It’s a complex situation. On the whole, Tibetans inside Tibet have a good deal of freedom to live their lives and practice their faith. On the other hand, China is completely intolerant of any activity that smells like seperatism. Moreover, China is engaged in an often clumsy effort to “Chinatize” or “Han-itize” (and not in the Sean Hannity sense) the Tibetan minorities and to take control of the many natural resources in the region.
In many ways it’s very similar to what we once did to our American Indians, and I say that not to justify what’s happening but simply as a comparison. One interesting thing I learned was that Tibetan couples are exempt from the “one-child policy.” I also recently learned that Tibetans who live in provinces other than Tibet have recently been forced to adhere to curfews as a “security” measure. China remains highly paranoic about such matters.
On the other hand, it’s clear that there are some nasty seperatist groups out there, some of which have bombed busses and killed people—these seem to be Islamists, not Tibetans, but their acts fuel government paranoia.
This is based on a bit of research and on a lot of conversations with people here.
