There is a lot more evidence to this story than to what Woodward and Bernstein used. It has long been my opinion that Watergate was a Drive-By Meida coup détat.

I agree. And I think it was then they thought “wow! Not only can we cause a President to leave office,we could even decide who gets to BE President.” They've been trying to do exactly that ever since. And they've become emboldened as there was no one nor nothing to take them to task, until the Internet came along. They absolutely refuse to give up their pretension's of power! “Why, it just can't be over”, they think while watching their customer's draw away in disgust.
