Your absence has been noted. ;)
We all experience these things in different ways at different moments of the day.
My mother had Alzheimer but the Lord allowed her lingering days to remain in her home with her dogs until she could no longer and she was not one to suffer having care givers and so I belived she was blessed that Lord took her home.
Now as I observed she being the last family member on both sides of her family and my dad’s family of that generation of parents and siblings.
As I look back many in the family looked upon my mother as a matriarch.
Thanks for the perfect example of why I didn't feel it worth my while to do the research on your behalf. No matter what is brought up, no matter how compelling, it won't matter to you.
BTW, the reason why I repeated in post 184, was b/c you never answered all the questions in your post 172, & still haven't! Not surprising frankly, but disappointing.
As far as trampling the legacy of a conservative icon, have I not brought up the same issues about Reagan that you bring up against Romney? Is it nonconservative to bring up similarities about their Governance? We as conservatives, are the ones that champion free expression of ideas to come to conclusions for the common good. The liberals are the ones that always want to quash any adverse perspective on their icons like Clinton.
Anyways, we seem to be at an impasse. As I said in an earlier post, I was on your side about Romney until I actually did the research, research that isn't just relegated to the web but one that includes discussions w/ a client of mine that has been/still is part of the body politic in Mass. for decades. It also includes discussions w/ the former Pres. of the Lincoln Club. That research coupled w/ other extensive research led me to change my mind. I'm glad I did, b/c after all, truth is what I'm after, not just sound bites from the Boston Globe.
Undoubtedly, both these men have much more familiarity w/ Romney than you do. You can play your games. I'll go to the more definitive sources. No offense, but I'll trust them more than you. I trust the VRWC, as you call them, as well. I think they have done more research than you, & their sources are undoubtedly better as well. If you have better sources, share them, I'm still open to learn. But, if your sources are relegated to a simple search on the web, discounting the the words from our conservative leadership, I'll defer to the better source.
I think we're done here. I wish the very best to you & yours.
Again, we've missed you. Good to have you back.
Sorry to hear about you lost but for her it is a day of celebration, a family reunion and graduation for your mother.
It is also can be surreal experience for those left behind to go through the house to see things left in various place, of items or project which they were working on or routinely done now remain in that final state, and never again will they continue the next day as they have so many days before.
For the first time many will have this final awareness of ones parents or love ones who will never again return to do those many things they took pleasure in doing.....
And what does Romney's plan do about this? The people who had Medicare/Medicaid (MassHealth here) still do; people whose income isn't low enough for welfare and not high enough to afford insurance are subsidised by the state.
I know of one guy who was living pretty marginally, but supporting himself -- he freaked at the health "plan" because he couldn't afford it, was afraid to file his state taxes because he couldn't show coverage, developed severe stomach pains and felt he couldn't go to a doctor (no insurance and it's required). A friend finally took him to the ER -- the stomach pains were nerves (brought on by the healh plan -- probably afraid he'd go to jail), but he was hospitalized for mental issues. Granted, he was't the most stable type before, but now he has MassHealth, food stamps, can't work and is living out of his car.
Like it or not, selecting a viable candidate who can defeat the Democrats is more than just picking the most conservative who supports "deeper things, like freedom and human rights and stuff like that."
After all, why didn't Duncan Hunter win the GOP primary going away?
Why didn't WWII hero Bob Dole defeat the smarmy sleeze-bab Bill Clinton?
Why did JD Hayworth and Rick Santorum both lose in 2006?
I'm not saying we should totally ignore a person's policy positions. But a likable and outgoing candidate with good media skills is essential to winning in this TV-Internet age.
I wish it weren't always so, but it is.
Romney, despite the few clumbsy statements he made 15-years ago when running against Teddy Kennedy, is one of the best supporters of conservative solutions in America... even if he made a few compromising statements when running for US Senate in 1994.
Reagan also compromised his stated principals during his two terms as President, (Amnesty, big tax increases in 1986, and budget deficits) yet he remains a conservative hero to almost everyone on FR.
Man, is it 2021 already?
Because he was a true conservative and HATED by the MSM and DNC (unlike Romney-TheLiberalDictatorSocialist)
. "Romney despite the few clumbsy (sic) statements he made 15-years ago when running against Teddy Kennedy
is one of the best supporters of conservative (sic) solutions in America..
Nope. He is a Liberal, to the Left of Kennedy, and a fraud, and a socialist ever dependent upon federal bailouts.
Translated: I Reno232, have lost the debate.
Btw. You posted no linked transcript from the Laura Ingraham show. You offered someones observation posted on their blog. Get real.
>>>>>Thanks for the perfect example of why I didn't feel it worth my while to do the research on your behalf.
After bragging about all the conservative labeling of Romney going on, you made it sound like an easy chore to post relevant examples. Guess it wasn't so easy. Now, was it? And I've not been playing with you. I even asked you to respond to my post at #87. Which you ignored.
In case you don't know it, Free Republic is right up there with Rush, Hannity, Coulter and the others, as stalwarts of conservatism. Some FReepers have supported Romney, while a few others have promoted him for POTUS and now VPOTUS. Some of us FReepers might even hold our collective noses and vote for a McCain-Romney ticket, should that be the choice.
Having said all that. Most FReepers understand that Romney is a life long liberal and not a conservative. For most of his adult life, Romney supported liberal issues and liberal causes. It will take more than rhetoric from one GOP primary season to convince most conservatives Romney is one of us.
Hence, the fake badges, for example.
Romney aides bogus badges: Sources detail illegal security tactic
" Boston Herald - Friday, July 20, 2007
In an apparent violation of the law, a controverisal aide to ex-Gov. Mitt Romney
created phony law enforcement badges that he and other staffers used on the campaign trail
to strong-arm reporters, avoid paying tolls and trick security guards
into giving them immediate access to campaign venues, sources told the Herald.
They (the aides) knew the badges were fake and probably illegal,
said a presidential campaign source who asked for anonymity
because the story could damage the individuals career.
Two additional sources confirmed that the badges - described as bright silver plates with a state seal attached -
were first created and used by Garrity while Romney was still governor."
“After all, why didn’t Duncan Hunter win the GOP primary going away?
“Why didn’t WWII hero Bob Dole defeat the smarmy sleeze-bab Bill Clinton?
“Why did JD Hayworth and Rick Santorum both lose in 2006?
I’m not buying into your argument that these candidates all
lost because they were not telegenic, superficial candidates.
Hunter: not perceived as ready
Dole: old Clinton: fun and friendly
JD: don’t know
Santorum: lost to son of former Governor Casey - and Santorum was
perceived as extreme and out of touch and all about Republican
power.
In other words, they gave up their viability.
As it stands now, McCain is not perceived as likable as
Obama. Adding the “Oh Jeez, Not this Same Old ****” look
alike to the ticket, will not make McCain more likable.
And it will hurt him among the 20%+ of the country who will
not vote for a mormonism guy under any circumstances,
according to consistent polls.
“Romney, ...is one of the best supporters of conservative solutions in America.”
No. He will say whatever it takes to get what he wants, just
as he did to win a MA Governorship. He did not govern that
way. He just started talking that way when he decided he
wanted the R presidency.
A candidate can get their message out despite the media, especially during a Primary.
Reagan did.
Other hated conservatives certainly have been able to get over the heads of the mainstream media.
But the critical element is the conservative candidate has to be affable, and outgoing, and positive.
They have to be seen as a people person, for lack of a better word.
Some conservatives (and some liberals) come off as a sour-puss, and thus they never get support out of the single digit range. Not all. Not even most.
Hillary lost in part because she was seen as being shrill, and Obama is very likable. He gives good speeches and makes people feel good, even if he is a stone-cold leftist.
The Republicans likewise have to take personality into consideration when choosing a candidate, or we will win very very few elections.
Is that fair? Not always, but it is reality.
It's brief but comprehensive.....and it absolutely, skillfully constructs the political (reality) reasons to support Mitt.
I have forwarded this excellent rundown to my entire list of those still scratching their heads about a vice-presidential partner for Senator McCain.
Leni
Conservative Repub candidates were ignored by the MSM. All of them.
They like Romney because he is a Liberal dictator and socialist under their control.
Come on, stop beating around the bush. Tell us what you really think.
Oh man; that is so sad.
We do pray for you and your family.
I know how that taking care of everything is; for I had to do that when my mom died.
My mom was the baby of 10, and lived to be 93.
