Romney moves up as Potential McCain VP
NPR ^ | July 20 | Ron Elving

Posted on 07/20/2008 9:07:44 AM PDT by ConservativeMan55

Once upon a time, people who wanted to be president were not expected to admit it in public. This mask of false indifference had to be dropped when the rise of primaries forced candidates to campaign actively for the office.

What would you call it then?

An abortion.

I wish people could see how being rigid and strident actually harms the chances of realizing the objective of ending abortions. I have counseled young people most of my adult life and I have had some success helping people see things in a different light by treating them kindly and respecting what they have to say. I know I have helped changed some hearts. Over-the-top name calling and accusations never seem to produce the desired outcome.

You are pitting your opinion against the ballots of tens of thousands of very conservative voters.

Go back and read my post, and you'll see I was referring to Barack Obama as a liberal.

Either you or they are fools; I'll go with the former.

I'll go with the person who demonstrates an inability to read in context.

"Well in fairness to Romney, he's been a conservative since around January 2007."

BINGO

"I'm not running as the Republican view or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.
"
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)

"I'm very clear I think, to the people across the Commonwealth -
my "R" didn't stand so much for Republican as it does for reform.
"
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)

"Look, I was an Independent during the time of Reagan/Bush.
I am not trying to return to Reagan/Bush."

(Mitt Romney, 1994 Senate Debate, Boston, MA, 10/25/94)

Less Liberal states selected someone else, usually Huckabee, as the first choice among Conservative voters. The fact that you had to use the exit poll from California might be a clue to what many think of Romney.

The funny thing about the exit polls that I read was that the second choice of the great majority of Huckabee voters in the primaries was McCain. I don’t think it was Huckabee that put McCain in. Rather, and this pains me greatly to say it, Thompson’s entry put McCain into the winner’s seat. I supported Thompson as the best choice, but he allowed himself to be painted as pro-abortion and lazy.

In the interest of full disclosure, I switched to Huckabee after Thompson. He was more Conservative than either McCain or Romney, but that is not saying much. He did have a good history in neighboring Arkansas, and with FR, in spite of some of the goofiness he spouted in the campaign.

Many commentators keep repeating that the VP pick for either party can either be a “do no harm” pick or have marginal positive impact on the Pres. candidate. Because that’t the way it has always been. But maybe this year is different. Because of McCain’s age, the public may come to look at Romney as almost a Deputy President. Romney may actually help McCain a whole lot. And McCain should pick him now!

All that is necessary is for us to put McRomney together and its the END for conservatism. I'd rather have 4 years of President for Life Didi Obama than McRomney. Its bad enough we have to endure McCain...must we have a moderate a heartbeat away from the Presidency? Romney's dad George returned from Vietnam as the governor of Michigan and immediately imploded his campaign by telling everyone he had been brainwashed by the military in Vietnam. The son can't get his positions straight on abortion, and additionally children when he was governor of Massachusetts he did exactly nothing for the Republican Party in that state. His entire team was made up of LDSers from Salt Lake City, and it will be the same if he gets to DC. Do you want your government to become a theocracy like Iran's??? I sure don't want that to happen! Besides I don't want another slickmeister like WJC on our side who does nothing for the Party or our ideology. If Romney had anything he'd have been the nominee! No, this ship has sailed. After all Huckabee has more electoral votes than he does? And I wouldn't want the Huckster as our nominee either because of the religious issue. We don't need anyone who is in any way aligned or perceived as being aligned with any particular religion. Remember it is IN GOD WE TRUST! Nobody said what denomination you had to be.

Its time to look for a really conservative governor...not a Charlie Crist type, but someone like “Tim Pawlenty”.

Any real conservative (not a phony, flipflop pretender)
would do the GOP well.

Romney is nothing more than the ‘wet dream’ of NPR, the DNC,
and the rest of the 527-MSM. Will the GOP be so stupid
as to let the MSM pick its choice for BOTH Pres. and VP?
One hopes not.

Mitt is much more Conservative than McCain.

And I would have much rather had Mitt at the top of the ticket but..

I’m willing to vote for McCain because I don’t want Obama in the White House.

He has very articulately explained why is he against abortion FOR now.

I prefer accuracy, and I am sure, as a conservative you value it as well, so I tightened that statement up a bit for you......

But see.. everybody’s calling it a flip-flop.

A flip-flop requires a flip AND a flop.

NOT just a change in position. Correct?

And he says he’s against abortion. Would you rather him be for Abortion?

"Mitt is much more Conservative than McCain."

Did Sen. McCain impose his will on the 'little people'
without their vote regarding socialized medicine {HillaryCARE}?

I think not.

I think not.

Mitt did the best he could in a Lib State like MA.
