From the moment Barack Obama appeared on America's national political stage, he was always going to be a controversial figure.
A half-white, half-black man with the poise and rhetorical flights of a Kennedy. A Harvard graduate abandoned by his Kenyan father to be raised by a single white mother. A man with the middle name Hussein running for the White House in post-9/11 America.
Yet, what few could have imagined was the degree of animus he would stir within America's own black community - and, in particular, its African-American leaders.
This week, it was revealed that the Rev. Jesse Jackson, for decades the dominant voice in black politics, had made an off-the-cuff remark into a TV microphone he thought was turned off that Obama was 'talking down to black people - telling n*****s how to behave'.
Jackson's remarks were prompted by a speech the Democrat Presidential candidate had made to a black church in which he dared to criticise young blacks for not completing school and being poor fathers.
'Too many fathers are Missing In Action. Too many blacks are AWOL, missing from too many lives and too many homes. They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it,' Obama had said.
Jackson, a former Democrat Presidential candidate himself, has suddenly detonated the race issue which has stalked Obama's every step towards the White House. His use of the explosive N-word - commonplace among young blacks in rap music and entertainment - is extraordinary in a political context, and sent America's liberal commentators into paroxysms.
News bulletins carried warnings that viewers were about to hear a dreadful racial epithet.
Had any white public (or even private) figure used the N-word, they would have been destroyed overnight.

Don't deny that, but publicly he had to deal with Meder's humor. I remember it well. He thought Meder sounded more like Bobby, but Meder had him dead on. His stuff is available again if you want some real laughs.

Abstract:
The Afro-Arab community living along the coastal belt of Kenya and Tanganyika contains persons claiming Arab nationality by either patrilineal or matrilineal descent in whom the biological Arab strain may vary between individuals born to pure Arab parents speaking Arabic and those in whom the Arab strain is unobservable and who speak Swahili. It is not accepted that the term Swahili covers the social interrelationships between these variations. The Swahili-speaking Afro-Arabs can be adequately described as Swahili but they nevertheless wish to be regarded as Arabs by outsiders and to speak as much Arabic as they can learn...

Luo History
Pre-Colonial Times
The Luo probably originated at Wau in southern Sudan, near the confluence of the Meride and Sue Rivers. The Kenya Luo migrated into western Kenya via todays eastern Uganda, the first wave arriving sometime around 1500 AD. Arrivals came in at least five waves arriving at different times: (1) the Joka-Jok (who migrated from Acholiland, the first and largest migration); (2) those migrating from Alur; (3) the Owiny (who migrated from Padhola); (4) the JokOmolo (perhaps from Pawir); and (5) The Abasuba (a heterogeneous group in southern Nyanza, with Bantu elements).
Afro-Arab (sometimes referred to as African Arab) refers to people who possess both black African and Arab ancestry.[1] There are large communities of Afro-Arabs in North Africa, East Africa and some Middle Eastern countries as well as, through recent migrations, Western Europe.
The phrase “Afro-Arab” also refers to African Union efforts to improve co-operation between Africa and countries of the Arab world.[2]

Isn’t Meder dead too?
.....he thought was turned off .......
Incorrect. He knew the mike was open. He was whispering.
He accepted the risk
There are surrounding groups who have been Arabicized.
Anthropoligists and historians differentiate between the two.
Then, there's a far larger group surrounding these people where Arabic is spoken. And beyond that, there's a vast territory where Classical Arabic is taught for the purpose of reading the Koran.
Members of the Luo tribe who are Moslem are simply part of the vast hinterland where Classical Arabic is taught for historical purposes.
Culturally the Luo are Luo!
The Luo also appear to have Negroid characteristics ~ nose, degree of pigmentation, shape of skull, hair structure.
“You’ll find that in the Arabian peninsula there are people who are known as “True Arabs”. This was the cultural heartland of the territory where the Arabic language was developed.

Wikipedia also reports that Odinga had claimed the victory and
There is a degree of agreement in the international community that the elections were at least partially manipulated.[4] In July 2008, an exit poll commissioned by the US was released, revealing that Odinga won the election by a comfortable margin of 6%, 46% to 40%, well outside of the exit poll's 1.3% margin of error. [5]Guess what "by the US" means in Wikispeak!
Following the footnote to the very recent article in The Nation we learn that "by the US" really means by an NGO, the IRI.
And exactly how does an exit poll have a 1.3% margin of error?
odd considering that 97% support him.
Accurate posts.
But didn’t the whole Arab connection come from this notion that a grandmother (?) on his father’s side was Saudi?
He also was high as a kite on a plethora of dope....basically all the good stuff.
Taking testosterone and adrenaline dope for his Addison's disease which had almost killed him.
And was shagging some of the finest "nani" in the world at the time.
I'd be laughing and heehawing too.
Again, that strong linkage between our President's powers and the impact on and entanglements with the political factions in other nations is why the President must be "natural-born" and the "natural-born" clause must be interpreted strictly. That both parents must be citizens in good standing.
Obama's Dad was a foreign national highly involved in the factional politics of that nation, Kenya. Obama's mom was a native born US citizen, who as an adult left the US, and became not just an ex-pat but (iirc) a citizen of one or more other nations. She lived and died abroad. Her status as a citizen in good standing is indeed questionable.
And in considering the "natural born" clause I think the intent of that term and interpretation in particular cases where it is questionable allows review of the childhood and young adulthood connections of the child and the family. That is my opinion, I am not a lawyer, just a reader of history and Blackstone.
Well, they shared geographic proximity and Abraham comes from Chaldea (modern Iraq) which is pretty high up there in Arabic lore.
Hebrew genealogy is pretty loose and porous up till King David.
Yes, I know Mohamed was 1700 years later but the peoples in that area weren't terribly separated.
There are quite a few Semitic names that cross over. Plenty of Arabs with last name David...one of Brasil's wealthiest families are Lebanese Arabs with that last name.
It amazes me how easily many Jews(Axlerod) blend into the Obama camp and even have prominant policy roles meanwhile this guy attended a church that is virulently anti-Jewish for 22 years and has a number of high profile anti-Jewish pals.
These sort of Jews...and there are plenty put their hatred of right wing Christian conservatism and their adoration of messianic humanism above self preservation.
Is this an historical pattern of behavior amongst Jewish elites ?
one could make a case for that at least partly..
I’d like to shake them....dumbasses....no different than collaborators or Kapos.
Luo, though, has a connection with Indo-European and Semitic languages in the pre-Ice Age period.
“English and Swedish have a common derivation in recent times from Old West Gothic. Old West Gothic is one of the Germanic families of languages within the Indo-European group. Indo-European is most closely related to the ancient Semitic group.

It's actually possible to postulate sounds backwards in time, and then compare vocabularies to find out when the languages had last contact, or came into contact.
It's not as precise as an alarm clock for a variety of reasons, but it's a tool.
Going beyond vocabulary, there are variations in grammar that occur over time (in preliterate societies). They can be compared to other cognate languages.
Lot of it's art too.
BTW, the way you check on pre-iceage, iced and post-iceage is to look at the vocabulary. The oldest words (or oldest reconstructed words) will have "forms" peculiar to them. See what they are ~ e.g. Birch might be found in the vocabulary of a population now living on the Riviera. Other examination revealing that those folks didn't borrow "birch" from the locals would indicate they'd lived elsewhere, or, had lived on the Riviera in the iceage.
Archeology and paleontology might give us the answer to who lived where, when.
BTW, this stuff isn't rocket science but it does take a lot of time, thought and money anyway.
You can discover that information by digging up the bones and dating them.
