Charles Krauthammer: Obama's Greatest Admirer
The Washington Post ^ | July 18, 2008 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 07/17/2008 9:30:12 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama wants to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. He figures it would be a nice backdrop. The supporting cast -- a cheering audience and a few fainting frauleins -- would be a picturesque way to bolster his foreign policy credentials.

What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn. President Ronald Reagan earned the right to speak there because his relentless pressure had brought the Soviet empire to its knees and he was demanding its final "tear down this wall" liquidation. When President John F. Kennedy visited the Brandenburg Gate on the day of his "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, he was representing a country that was prepared to go to the brink of nuclear war to defend West Berlin.

Who is Obama representing? And what exactly has he done in his lifetime to merit appropriating the Brandenburg Gate as a campaign prop? What was his role in the fight against communism, the liberation of Eastern Europe, the creation of what George Bush the elder -- who presided over the fall of the Berlin Wall but modestly declined to go there for a victory lap -- called "a Europe whole and free"?

Does Obama not see the incongruity? It's as if a German pol took a campaign trip to America and demanded the Statue of Liberty as a venue for a campaign speech. (The Germans have now gently nudged Obama into looking at other venues.)

Americans are beginning to notice Obama's elevated opinion of himself. There's nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?

The only good resaon to vote this November is to prevent Obama from being elected POTUS.

The more I see of Obama the more frightened I become. I think he suffers from delusions of grandeur.

“Power has a way of undermining judgment, of planting delusions of grandeur in the minds of otherwise sensible people and otherwise sensible nations.” - Senator J. William Fulbright, 1966”

Obama has not even tasted power. I can only imagine.

And yet McCain doesn’t have the guts to call Obama’s trip a campaign stunt. Black Jesus and all the special attention he demands are wearing very thin with me. I hope plenty of others are feeling the same disgust. Obama is starting to make John Edwards look almosy “manly”.

Eight years of media pounding on the President

You've probably hit it as it's been relentless, and given the lack of exposure to things political what they see is most likely negative.

Obama could look and sing like Elvis Presely but I wouldn't vote for him. Too shallow, a whole lot of clean, articulate, nothing.

Bush should have gone to D.C. to be a 'divider'. His mistake was reaching across the aisle ('compassionately') and getting his hand stomped. Now, McCain is poised to do the same thing. Heck, the Left could lose the election and still come out ahead.

Note to self, never, Never, NEVER put myself in a position where Dr. Krauthammer might want to take after me in print.

I've listened to Rush describe Obama as the Lord and Master but thought he was kidding around with the speechifying that the back bench light weight senator from Illinois uses to snake charm his audiences. Krauthammer is a psychiatrist and journalist and this, from him, pegs it for me.

I'll add that I still think Obamalamadingdong is someone's puppet.

Wow. Krauthammer is still getting better and better as the years go by, and that’s not easy to do.

BUMP for excellence!

Maybe.....I suspect something worse than that. Soros, Marc Rich and an assortment of Nazi holdovers.

Could someone explain why I’m seeing so many Obama stickers on cars that belong to people who seem educated/middleclass/etc.? Are there that many shallow people taking a ride on a popularity bandwagon or something?

I wonder if it is 'white guilt', something I myself fail to understand. But the bandwagon theory is probably on target, too...it goes along with the $5 Starbucks coffee, the Prius, the sandals...

I have to say, even living in liberal Massachusetts, I don't think I see half the bumper stickers for Obama that I saw for Jon Carry. Hell, the number of cars with Kerry/Edwards stickers or some anti-Bush nonsense probably rival or outnumber the Obama stuff. Maybe Massachusetts feels burned by its utterly useless loser governor, a prototype for Obama.

That said, though, I can count on one hand the number of stickers I've seen for McCain.

After all, in the words of his own slogan, "we are the ones we've been waiting for," which, translating the royal "we," means: " I am the one we've been waiting for."

Another zinger!
