I was there, sitting way in the back. Brit Hume used the proper words when he reported on it: Elegant and Solemn. The children were incredibly composed, but I bet the added pressure of being televised would have made it too much for them. It would have turned into a circus about who were the celebrities in attendance. This way it was a personal event, even though shared with anyone who could make it to the Shrine.

What an honor for Tony to have such a send-off. The President of the United States and the President of Catholic University to give their time and love in their remarks.

I am so glad for you that you were able to attend. As much as I would have loved to have watched, I was really pleased that the family made that decision. I agree that it would have been much more difficult for the children, and after all, they are most important. I am amazed, still, that they participated. How wonderful!

I, and I am sure others, would love to hear any other thoughts you have. Again, I am so glad you were able to pay your respects in that way.

We need a FULL REPORT detailing everything you saw and heard — perhaps on tonight’s DOSE (7/18/08)?!
