4th of July, not sure what time the fireworks were around that area (10:00 - 10:30PM?) plus getting an ice cream or something afterwards and it could pretty easily get to close to midnight without noticing.
Even if the victim were to die, I don’t think MN has the death penalty, which is a shame as the killer of Dru Sjodin and these winners would all be great candidates for old sparky.

Yeah. Now the girl and mom need to worry that these idiots will come after them. And Dad isn’t even around to intervene. Hope they have family.
