Sarah Brightman was born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England to Paula and Grenville Brightman, the eldest of six children. At age three, she took ballet lessons at the Elmhurst School and appeared in local festivals. At age eleven Brightman attended the Arts Educational boarding school for jazz and acting, an experience she recalled in an interview with The Independent as troublesome. Brightman was teased by other students and ran away once, but nevertheless she remained at the school.

Later, she auditioned for London's Royal Ballet but was rejected. At sixteen, in 1976, Brightman joined the dance group Pan's People, a staple on the BBC series Top of the Pops. She left a year later to lead Hot Gossip, a mixed dance act who appeared regularly on The Kenny Everett Video Show. The group, whose routines were more provocative than those of Pan's People, had a chart-topping disco hit in 1978 with "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper", a space-themed track which sold half a million copies and reached number six on the UK charts. The group released a follow-up single, "Adventures of the Love Crusader", six months later, but it was less successful, failing to chart on the UK's top 50.

Brightman, now solo, released several more disco singles in subsequent years under Whisper Records; these included "Not Having That!" and a cover of the song "My Boyfriend's Back". None of these, however, were as prominent as "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper".

LOL!! I accidentally sent a comment from my wife’s screenname. I forgot that i was showing her all the comments and left the comp logged in as her LOL

it looks like the comment I accidentally posted under my wife's screenname never got posted. So i'll post again.

I'm in Atlanta's USO and am getting ready to go back to Afghanistan.

I apologize for not checking in while on leave, but the wife and I had a MAJOR housing emergency. My wife asked the apt. manager to look after the apt. while she went back to take a college course (as is asked in our lease) and the manages was remis in her duties. My wife came back to 2 inches of water on the floor and the smell of things long damp was pretty bad. We had to go back to her parents and call around to find a new place to live using only a clarksville area apt guide to find one. We finally found a good one, but the amount of work it took to get one was a big headache.

I will say that my and the wife did manage to have a nice anniversary together despite what happened.

I'm in Atlanta's airport USO awaiting flight to go back to Afghanistan.

Sorry I wasn't on during the leave, the wife and I had a MAJOR housing emergency come up.

My wife asked the apt. manager to look after the apt. once a week while she went home to take some college courses, well the apt. manager didn't do what was asked and my wife walked in to 2 inches of water in the apt and the smell of mold and dampness. We spent most the leave finding a new place to live. We had to do this from her parents in Virginia using an apt. guide we picked up. We found a nice place that was just built and is a gated community, but the work it took to find a place over the phone sucked majorly.

We did have a nice anniversary though and enjoyed our time together.

Have yet to do the towels, the sheets, fold put away the clothes, vacuum, dust, empty the dishwasher, by Sunday evening finish cleaning the garage, and empty out my truck passenger area.
