NEW YORK (Reuters) - Get out of the way, road rage. Here comes desk rage. ADVERTISEMENT
Anger in the workplace -- employees and employers who are grumpy, insulting, short-tempered or worse -- is shockingly common and likely growing as Americans cope with woes of rising costs, job uncertainty or overwhelming debt, experts say.
"It runs gamut from just rudeness up to pretty extreme abusive behaviors," said Paul Spector, professor of industrial and organizational psychology at the University of South Florida. "The severe cases of fatal violence get a lot of press but in some ways this is more insidious because it affects millions of people."

They're probably right.

You mean dealing with life makes you grumpy? Wow, thanks Reuters...this is such an eye opener.
Every place I've ever worked has had a jerk in it.
... Uh, wait ...
Desk Rage, they should get a job roofing in Texas in July and Aug. They will be much happier back at their desk in Sept.
In my security gig, most of our work is this type of thing: Terminations, layoffs, workplace threats, stalkers, etc..
LOL!
Hmmmm.....gee, let’s throw smoker bans into the mix....can’t smoke at work, more than likely can’t go out to eat in a restaurant and relax with a smoke, can’t unwind with a smoke and a drink in a bar anymore....then, of course, add to that-the ripoff of gasoline prices, which is spreading swiftly to groceries, all other goods...it’s becoming swiftly to the point where life is miserable anymore, because any fun or pleasure is being taken away from the ‘lower classes’-not those with money or the politicians, of course.
The steel industry in the 1990's was a real throwback. I miss those days . . . it was crazy.
I don’t believe this.
We are happier than ever before. You don’t need a drink and.or a smoke to relax.
Why, simply look at our better health since all the bans; no more colds or sick people at work, dramatic reductions in ashtma and respiratory illness, not only among adults but children too.
And gas, well, reduced traffic and smog, another plus.
Even INGSOC was smart enough to not mess with the working class. Our government overlords apparently got the cliff notes version of 1984 or have no reading comprehension.
LOL! Seriously, I don’t think it’s you.
Long ago an old man told me: “Life is hard enough for everyone. You don’t need to do anything to make it harder.”
I try to live by those words.
I do not always succeed. But I try.
....I got my first real job when I got out of the Army...there was an older guy in the company that never seemed to get worried or upset...I said “Joe, what’s your secret?” he said “I always have a years go-to-hell-money down at the bank...that way I can tell a boss to go to hell and live for a year with no cut in life style”....that very day I began to work on my own stash of cash at the company credit union....later I added stocks/bonds....at one time I got it up to 7 years worth....having that go-to-hell money was the only way I could have ever put up with the nonsense I saw at work....and it actually got worse in the late 90s... my advice is to start saving today to buy back your freedom....just having the money there will help you get thru the day better.
God knows it is all I can do sometimes to get through the day. One of my jobs is facilities and the incessant whining about temperatures in the office are enough alone to drive you insane.
I’m sitting here at my desk and reading this article makes me so angry I could spit.
BTDT - gave me a whole new appreciation for work that doesn’t involve daily manual labor, AND the satisfaction that I can always provide for my family if this military and legal thing doesn’t work out for me.
