It's "her time" to get into the family business.
Caroline Kennedy's high-profile appointment to Barack Obama's vice-presidential search team was orchestrated in a deal brokered by her famous uncle, Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, in exchange for his endorsement, The Post has learned.
It was the result of Carolina, a 50-year-old Harvard grad, indicating to her now-ailing uncle that it was "her time" to get into politics, insiders told The Post.
JFK's daughter is looking to get her feet wet in political affairs, sources said, including the possibility she could one day run for office in some capacity or accept a position within an Obama administration.
"Caroline was part of the deal" for Ted's surprise backing of Obama, an immediate family member said.

I said that months ago. I have been telling people since early March that Caroline Kennedy was going to end up on Obama’s ticket. People have been saying, “She has no experience.” but remember...the whole campaign philosophy has been, “Sell personality not experience.”
The scenario would be, get the Kennedy endorsement and horse trade Caroline to do it. Put Caroline on the search committee. Let the search committee work the same way Cheney’s did. In the end, make it clear that everyone was vetted and that Caroline did such an outstanding job that we looked up, looked around and asked (in the granded RFK tradition) “Why not?”
What does Obama gain? First, he gets all the blue hairs who remember Caroline and Macaroni. Second, he gets all the women wondering “Hillary who?” Third, he gets the ethnic blacks and hispanics solidified who remember JFK’s Civil Rights and Cuba efforts. Fourth, he gets the electric sizzle that puts a candidate out of reach. Fifth, he gets a big fat Made in the USA sticker on his butt. Sixth, he gets the independents looking for a reason to swing one way versus the other. Finally, he gets McCain pushed into the corner with the right wing evangelicals who already dislike McCain anyhow.
In short, beyond the experience issue which Obama loses on anyway, if he picks Caroline Kennedy as his VP, this election is over..so don’t be surprised...

He required EPA permits and contracts all the time and hired lobbyists and made his way through the Capital hallways pretty good and was very familiar with some Southern senators some of whom are still there.
The talk was:
A) Kennedy though a leftist pandering maniac was very genial to everyone which probably helped save his ass on the hill during this and he was the last one left so folks felt sorry for him since also he seemed sorta over his head and doing all this because it was expected of him.
B) Mary Joe was his mistress (probably not exclusively) and that she was pregnant. Not saying folks there thought he killed her on purpose but panicked, saved his ass and then tried to contain damage making it look even worse as if the truth wasn't bad enough.

The Kennedys are like the Bonapartes of France. Little talent combined with an overweening sense of entitlement.
Maybe Caroline is the Kennedy equivalent of Louis Napoleon.

As I understand it, Prohibition made Joe Kennedy wealthy.
Joe Sr was an alcohol smuggler and had the market cornered from the source for some Irish and Scottish brands. He did quite well and sold quite a bit to the bent nose crowd.
Which if one believes conspiracies contributed as a stepping stone to the eventual death of his son over maybe the loss of Cosa Nostra properties in Cuba. They felt more betrayed by the familiarity since it was Joe’s son.
Joe was a poor ambassador to St James. He acted shameful during the Battle of Britain and failed to see the Nazis for what they were....likewise he was sorta disparaging of Jews in general even though he was tight with Felix Frankfurter.
He also behaved very dishonestly during the crash when he exploited the crash and then when appointed SEC chair he outlawed the very crap that made him rich.
He was a determined sort but completely without scruples...not a good man and his legacy shows in that family.

and think about it....not at all too much different from the barons, earls and lords of olden Europe.
And within 6 months, year max, Caroline will be President and we will have a race war on our hands. And of course the "lone gunman" will be a southern White Male Republican.
Teddy will die having returned the Kennedy's to the WH for Poppa Joe, and the race issue will ensure Democrat control for years to come.
Caroline Kennedy will be Obambi’s VP candidate!! It will be like Dick Cheney running the VP screening process for George W. Bush...... OK, she doesn’t exactly have any real political experience, but that magical Kennedy name will go far.
Back in her grandfather Joe's day, the family business used to be bootlegging. Today's equivalent of bootlegging is drug running. Ever since Joe cleaned himself up and got FDR to appoint him Ambassador to the Court of St. James (U.S. ambassador to the UK), the family business has been politics. I see little substantive difference between Joe's former business and the latter.
None. It is just an entitlement.

Re the Kennedy “getting drunk” business —
I recall vividly tales told to me (by a former co-worker who knew her well when the co-worker socialized with Kennedy because her own parents were prominent Boston judges) about the young Caroline, knocking the drinks back and smoking like a chimney at multiple Boston area brunches back in the day — before she had the much older husband and kids.
Guess since kids are older now and Uncle Teddy is on the way out, it’s her “time” to actually do something. And no, I don’t count writing her little books as having done something.
And sorry, this is catty, but doesn’t she look a whole lot older than 50? Those Kennedy people live hard!
Absolutely, old Joe Kennedy was a bootlegger extraordinaire! It’s quite a tale if you have the time to look into it.
I remember my dear father ranting about those awful Kennedys way back in the ‘60 election when I was a mere child.
Hadn’t heard that. But I could imagine her pitch to Uncle Ted:
“I can’t even think of running for senate in Hillary’s state, look what happened when John-John was thinking that way.”

I've always kind of held Caroline and her brother apart and respected them even though their politics do not mesh with mine, and can't see myself bashing her ever, but you said it. That is the hypocrisy of liberals and, sad to say some Republicans, have enough money to escape it. Would her father really have gone along with abortion and other life issues and some of the other liberal changes in the party since his life was ended? I'm really trying to understand where they are coming from.

Not that she has said much but you know she won't expand drilling for oil (ANWR and offshore) because she has no idea what is going on. Her inherited wealth has shielded her from America's problems

BTW Most of Carolyn's wealth come from gold. Jacquelyn Kennedy bought in big very early on the advice of a Jewish advisor Wall St big shot who's name escapes me at the moment
Now that it looks like Ted may not live long enough to complete the destruction of America he's going to have to hand the job off to someone he can trust to finish up for him.
She can carry on the Kennedy tradition after Ted the White Whale takes his final dive.
