This is an issue that isn't going away for the Obama campaign and unless they address it in an effort to put it to bed, it will become one of those "distractions" the candidate really hates:
A few weeks ago, a diary entry at Daily Kos published several documents purporting to be Obama's birth certificate. One of those documents is now a confirmed forgery, ferreted out by the website Israeli Insider:
Jay McKinnon, a self-described Department of Homeland Security-trained document specialist, has implicated himself in the production of fake Hawaii birth certificate images similar to the one endorsed as genuine by the Barack Obama campaign, and appearing on the same Daily Kos blog entry where the supposedly authentic document appears.
The evidence of forgery and manipulation of images of official documents, triggered by Israel Insider's revelation of the collection of Hawaii birth certificate images on the Photobucket site and the diligent detective work of independent investigative journalists (led by JimJ and Texas Darling) and imaging professionals such as Polarik in the three weeks since the publication of the images, implicate The Daily Kos, a "progressive" blog site, and the Obama campaign's "Fight the Smears" website, in misleading the public with official-looking but manipulated document images of doubtful provenance. Moreover, the blog and the campaign have been negligent in allowing the promotion of obviously forged and fake official documents together with the purported image of Obama's birth certificate.

Two things: First, the Obama campaign should have known the document was a forgery because ostensibly, they have the original. If they did know, suspicion of why they allowed the fake to stay out there without debunking it themselves leads us to the question of "why?"

Don’t worry. Just before the election they will have someone file suit claiming John McCain was born in a foreign country to counteract the lack of citizenship of Obama.
And they will trump it with the films of McCain made after he was tortured.

Why would ANYBODY put out a faked birth “certificate”?
Knowing the techniques available, some very good plausible fakes COULD be produced, but mostly, only for purposes of establishing an identity, for purposes of fraud of some kind. This is not counterfeiting money, birth certificates COULD be prepared that are VERY difficult to differentiate between real and forgeries.
Unless the “forgery” was SUPPOSED to be identified. This is an excellent way to thoroughly muddy the motives of the propagation of the deceit, and claim later that some “outsider” had done this as a prank, not any way a serious attempt at a coverup or diversion from inquiry. Thus the REAL forgery could be presented, and its authenticity would less likely be questioned.
is it possible this guy managed to get into the IL state bar, and later the state senate, by originally floating a fake birth certificate, and even managed to get past the vetting process the DNC had when they chose to elevate him in 2004 to the senate with an eye on eventual presidential nomination?

Coco Solo was part of the canal zone IIRC, and thus a US territory.

McCain was born in a foreign country. He was born in Panama. The difference being both of his parents are citizens and his military father was stationed in Panama.
Doesn’t matter if it was US territory or not. My son was born overseas and is an American Citizen. He doesn’t have a forged birth certificate though.
I don't know the answer to that. I also do not know which branch, agency or department of the US government is charged with the responsibility of making sure that the winning candidate meets the qualifications required by the Constitution to assume the office.

Somewhere in our gazillion message thread I popped up the link for this piece by Moran.
Until the State or Justice dept. confirms a legitimate American birth certificate for Obama he should not be recognized as a candidate for President, much less President, even if elected. He should be able clear this up by tomorrow morning.
