NEW YORK -- CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman" tied its lowest-ever adults 18-49 rating last week.

"Late Show" averaged a 0.9 rating in adults 18-49, Nielsen Media Research said. That is its lowest ever for an original since the program premiered in 1993, though not the lowest for the show: It has hit 0.9 several times, most recently in late December when it was in reruns because of the WGA strike.

Meanwhile, "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" averaged a 1.3 rating in the demo, its biggest margin of victory against "Late Show" in four months. "Late Show" tied for second place in the demo rating with ABC's "Nightline," though "Nightline" had more viewers in the demo. Both "Tonight" and "Late Show" showed drops in viewers and the demo.

What hasn’t been mentioned here yet is that Johnny Carson was great when it came to doing physical comedy .. whether it was pratfalls, sppearing in his jockey shorts, wearing some kind of crazy costume or outfit, etc.
Carson was in the same class as Lucille Ball in that regard.

Leno, Letterman, John Stewart, Conan O’Brien (I hate how he always messes with his hair, that’s his big schtick?) are just stand up comedians, and not very good ones at that.

It’d be a step in the right direction. Paley would’ve fired Letterman’s ass if he didn’t knock it off with the continual President bashing. I never saw any late night yakker in the ‘90s bash Clinton a fraction as much, and if they had, they definitely would’ve been fired.

Both Leno and Letterman love to bash McCain on his age, but are scared to joke at Obama’s expense on anything.

It is very one-sided.

Age-ist jokes are okay.

Sexist jokes are okay.

Any joke about Obama, is not okay?

That’s a reasonable observation. But I will say Carson had more class.
