Paddy Ashdown: Military intervention in Zimbabwe 'would be justified'
Lord Ashdown says terror must be ended
Michael Evans, Defence Editor and Catherine Philp in Harare
Military intervention in Zimbabwe would be justified to stop the violence there deteriorating into mass slaughter, Paddy Ashdown told The Times last night.
Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon said: The situation in Zimbabwe could deteriorate to a point where genocide could be a possible outcome - something that looks like [another] Rwanda.
In that case, international military action, with Britain playing a delicate role, would have to be considered, said the former European Union High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Britain and the United States became the first countries to refuse to recognise Robert Mugabe as President of Zimbabwe yesterday after Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), sought refuge at the Dutch Embassy.

Obama would pull troops out of Iraq or Afghanistan and re-deploy them to Africa.
No Republican wants to see footage of dead black Africans killed by white American troops all over the nightly news.
We also do not have the troops to spare at this time. Although we might have some surplus Iraqi AK's we can hand over to the opposition
I prefer a “proxy” war in this case..

Translation: We don’t want to get our hands dirty. Paging George Bush and the USMC.
Why should we shed our western blood for INGRATES?
Why should we shed our western blood for INGRATES?
The Brits insisted on putting Mugabe in power. Now they have to live with the unforeseen consequences.
Cut the head off and the body will die! Mugabe and the top military brass can be eliminated. While we are at it, tell Mr. useless, Mbeki to keep his head WAY DOWN! Calling Global Hawk!
Any white, western troops would be targets in that scenario. Off shore and air support, maybe. Would SA go along with it?
A few hundred well armed mercenaries could take care of Mugabe in a day. His troops are loyal only out of fear, and they would run away rather than fight. Even his inner circle is tired of him, they all have stashed their cash in swiss banks and will likely flee that fight. No one willing to die for the brutal thug.
Why Waste our Resources.
Why should we care what happens let it be a lesson in life.
You play with African Commies you DIE.
Mbeki in South Africa should be the next Commie taken out.
Do not kid yourself as to the nature of these people.
They are not “ally quality”
Military intervention would be difficult, as Zimbabwe is landlocked. To gain access to the country from the Indian Ocean, one would have to cross Mozambique, South Africa, or perhaps Tanzania. To access Zimbabwe from the Atlantic, one must first transit Southwest Africa, Angola, or Congo Kinshasa along the coast, and then pass through Botswana or Zambia.
The Chinese have huge interest in Zimm not becomming free. At this point, they more or less own the place and other than Mbeki, they more or less call the shots.
A few weeks ago the ChiComs tried to ship in a HUGE load of military equipment. The ship was turned away by the dock workers in S.A. My hat is off to them. Does anyone know if the Chinese got the weapons into Zimm.?
I hope that means: "Send in the Gurkhas."
Then get YOUR ass over there, Paddy. Maybe you can make it a double date with Jimmy Carter.
You NAILED it!
They reap what they have sown. The Day Rhodesia ceased to be their fate was sealed. Let them Embrace Zimbabwe.
