Protests as Jackie Chan arrives in Taiwan
Wed Jun 18, 12:38 PM ET
Kung fu hero Jackie Chan arrived in Taipei Wednesday amid a protest over controversial remarks he made four years ago on the island's presidential elections.
Scores of protesters shouted "Jackie Chan, get out" as the Hong Kong actor, having arrived aboard a private jet, was escorted by bodyguards and local police out of the international airport near Taipei.

Ping!
Sorry to read this about Chan...glad he was booed!!!!
> It may not be known to many in U.S., but these days, Jackie Chan is a cheerleader for Chinese communist regime.
It certainly isn’t well known here! I had NO IDEA. Jackie Chan a ChiCom — I guess it’s the last time his DVDs play at my place.
(Just dam’n! And I really *like* chop-socky movies! I guess there’s always Bruce Lee.)

I doubt Jackie is a "Chicom" - he's simply been seduced and co-opted into the "useful idiot" corps by an appeal to his cultural pride...

Is it better to be a ChiCom or a dupe...? I guess he’ll need to struggle with that one.
Too bad there’s such a paucity of good chop-socky actors these days — I’m really gonna miss Jackie, and he won’t be easily replaced.
Maybe he doesn’t want to end up like Bruce or Brandon.
And, the difference would be....?

Hong Kong kung-fu star Jackie Chan has issued a warning to disruptive Olympic protestors - if they interfere with his leg of the torch relay, he will not hesitate to strike back.
The ‘Rush Hour’ actor will be carrying the torch when it nears Beijing, the host city for the upcoming 2008 Olympics.
The torch relay has drawn reams of protesters, bringing attention to China's human rights record and the clampdown in Tibet - with recent incidents seeing the torch extinguished.
However, Chan won't be having a bar of it. He assures that he will be going “Jackie Chan style” on anyone who tries to disrupt his shining moment.
“Demonstrators better not get anywhere near me. They are doing it for no reason. They just want to show off on the TV,” he said. “They know, ‘if I can get the torch, I can go on the TV for the world news’.”
The actor was excited that his homeland will be hosting the Olympics, and said that the games will greatly benefit the country.
“It will provide another way for us to tell the world about Chinese culture,” added Chan.
“We are not right about everything. Things are getting better in China but we can change and are changing. We want to learn from the rest of the world as well as teach others about our ways and our culture.”

.................... That doesn’t sound so pro-chicom to me.
An undercover cheerleader?
I see it a little different. Being that he is Chinese and it may be more of his love of his culture and ethnicity, not neccassarily government. Lord knows I love my culture and the USA but there are some portions of this government that I loathe. Saying they are not right about everything and that they are trying to change says alot. Sharing ones culture does not equate to promoting ones idealistic regime forced upon them.
So his intent is quite suspicious, to say the least. He is taking a slippery slope.
Well said.
Even in Hong Kong, there are many Chinese who want to share Chinese culture but not so overtly friendly to Chinese government.
Big news here about Jackie...Chen Long in Chinese. He saw through the BS Chen Shui-bian “assassination” attempt and spoke his mind. The DPP loyalists cranked up the propaganda machine and black-balled him. Unfortunately for them he is too well loved for his movies here to make much difference.
Glad to see him back visiting the island.
