On Monday, June 16, Governor Mark Sanford (R) signed H 3212, the Right-to-Carry reciprocity bill. In spite of an extremely crowded legislative schedule, the South Carolina House and Senate came to terms on a bill that will extend gun rights, not only for citizens of the Palmetto State, but for visitors to South Carolina as well.

"...but for visitors to South Carolina as well."

Even for Texas CHL holders?

I was in Florida last week with my Texas Permit.

Please take a moment to call Governor Mark Sanford and thank him for signing H 3212. The Governor can be reached by phone at (803) 734-2100.

I just did - just to have one more "yeah" added to his support list - maybe other governors will take note

In MA you have to jump through hoops to get a license to carry a rubber band.Gun permits....don't make me laugh. But who knows, the SCOTUS just might change that. But with their recent decision granting filthy towelheaded terrorists the right to free cable in prison I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Good job Gov. Sanford. This has been a long time coming.

Now, need to check my permits and see which ones are valid.

Thanks for the link. I’m puzzled as to why NCDOJ does not have a .gov address?

Good news from South Carolina, although there are restrictions on this being granted to various states; a list of states to be granted reciprocity has yet to be drawn up by the SC legislature.

If I read it correctly, this law requires other CCW states reciprocity "provided that the reciprocal state requires an applicant to successfully pass a criminal background check and a course in firearm training and safety". My home state of Florida, for example, doesn't make the training mandatory, so it may or may not end up on the list.

Texas has a background check, but no required firearm training and safety course. You have to take a class on the CHL law and pass a written test about it (which is a joke), and then pass a shooting test (also very easy), but its not "training and safety" in the strictest sense of what those words mean. Still, SC will decide after looking at each state's rules, and they may surprise us. Me, I'm not holding my breath - but neither do I expect to go to SC anytime soon.

I hope so too! If they take away the rights of law abiding citizens then only the law breakers will have guns

I’m not a gun owner, but I saw a web video on the Taurus handgun. What makes it ideal protection against car jackers and street gangs mugging a lone victim, is that the Taurus can fire shotgun shells that would be ideal in both of these life or death situations. It can also be loaded with high calibre shells should the gunshot not stop the perps intent upon killing you and/or stealing your automobile.

"Texas has a background check, but no required firearm training and safety course."

I don't think it is a State's business to require training for law abiding citizens carrying weapons. However, I have taken two CHL courses here in Texas and recall very strick instructions on safety. The Instructors enforce it with their own lives, because they depend on it.

I also don’t think its the state’s business, but if you want to carry without worrying about getting hauled off to jail, then you’ve got to play the state’s game until you can get the law changed - that’s just practical reality.

I’ve also been through the CHL process twice. There are safety instructions, but it isn’t a “safety course” as is apparently required in SC for reciprocity. The instructions are those of the CHL class instructor, who is acting as a range officer who’s trying to protect his and our lives. He isn’t acting as a safety course instructor.

That would be the Judge. Fires .45 Colt (not .45 ACP) or .410 shells. Great concept.

My state (NC) and SC are already reciprocal states, but NC doesn’t allow CC in restaurants that sell and serve alcohol while SC does. Guess where I go to have dinner.
