I imagine the passerby’s were too stunned to react because most of us carry at least a tire jack in our car. A good whack across the head would have put a stop to that.
I see it this way: they actually stopped and tried to help. They could have kept on driving, but they didn’t. They already put themselves at risk to intervene. Considering that, they probably did do everything they could to stop the attack but the crazed maniac was able to dispense with their efforts and finish the job. Who knows if a “good whack across the head” would have stopped a raving maniac? They stopped and they tried. It took a bullet to stop him.
I don’t know... Maybe I’m a “rare breed” but as a mother, I don’t think I would’ve thought twice about getting involved if I saw a baby getting beaten so terribly... I might not have jumped in alone, but if there were others I would’ve probably thought of SOMETHING to stop it! *shaking head*
Too many people in these times are so self-focused that they wouldn’t get involved no matter how little the danger to themselves. I wonder how many true heroes are left in our world, honestly...
Please note: I am not blaming the witnesses and bystanders - I wasn’t there and I don’t know all the circumstances in this case. I’m just commenting on this in light of things I’ve seen with my own eyes...
