Feel the same way about, say, Eichmann or Mengele (may they rot in hel*)? I would hope not.
If he is 83 now, he would have been 20 when the war ended. While I have no time for the atrocities that happened in Germany before and during WWII, I have a hard trouble accepting him as a “war criminal” based on his age.
