I think Dianne Feinstein is definitely the less insane of my states Senators. Shes actually seeing a government-run program thats losing money hand over fist (and has been for yearsthis isnt just a Democrat thing, its a government thing) and releasing it into the private sector:
Its cratering, she said of the restaurant system. Candidly, I dont think the taxpayers should be subsidizing something that doesnt need to be. There are parts of government that can be run like a business and should be run like businesses.
Of course, ideology quickly came into play, because many of Feinsteins fellow Dems believe that most of business should be run like a government and should be run by government. Heres Robert Menendez, determined to keep the Senate restaurant under Senate management and throw good money (YOUR money) after bad to make a point:

Maybe now the libs is waking up to the reality of socialism. Rush touched upon this yesterday.
Can the rats still write bad checks over the amount the of food like the bad old days in a privatized setting?
All this while they’re considering a windfall profits tax on big oil. Sheesh!
Too bad we couldn’t “privatize” our senators and representatives while we’re at it...No income if you don’t benefit the US Citizenry. Cut taxes, cut gov’t waste, drill for oil here and stop interfering in our personal lives. Privatize social security and get your mitts out of our medical accounts.
And these are the people who want to federalize health care.
Obama has said that he wants to give Americans access to the same type of care Congressmen get.
How about we put Congressmen under the EXACT same program that they push on the citizenry? No private coverage for them.
Several years ago, the House privatized its restaurant. Senate staffers started eating at the house restaurant because the food and services was much better. The privatized House restaurant has returned several million dollars in royalties to the House.
***And these are the people who want to federalize health care.***
Socialize***
Call it what it is.
I notice that the Senate is requiring that current dining room employees not have their artificially high wages cut by the new restaurant management company.
I am getting the impression that the Senate will next learn the lesson that private enterprise doesn’t work well if it’s over-regulated.
If the Senators really wanted to achieve “fairness” in the restaurant workers’ wages, they would insist they be paid the same as they are.
If privatization works for the failing restaurant, why not try it for Medicare and Social Security?
“why not try it for Medicare and Social Security?”
Makes too much sense.
Dan Rostenkowski?
So now the people who run the House Restaurant will also operate the Senate Restaurant.
