Of course, "DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW" is
liberally expending our reserves, not
conserving them, so perhaps you shouldn't use the term "conservative" to group them all.
"Conservative" would be to conserve our own, letting others blow through their oil reserves first, so we're the last ones with any easy-to-extract remaining.

I have thought about that before. I used to ask why we buy Arab oil and someone answered, so we burn theirs up before we burn ours up. But presently, only 3% comes from the ME (and that is from Kuwait and Iraq).
In any case, I think that if we just made it legal to drill, we would have more power to bargain with OPEC. We tell them that we are going to flood the market and make it 3 cents a gallon and I have a feeling they will find a way to pump more oil.

It will take years to start seeing oil flow if we start now. Add to that estimates I've seen that show 2 trillion barrels of untouched oil....... enough to last us over 100 years! Conserving that much oil is foolish.

Why stop with oil? Maybe we should conserve our land and import all our food. Maybe we should shut down all our extractive industries and live off the rest of the world’s bounty.

At which time they will tax the living sh*t out it and cover it with so much cap and trade that it will be more expensive to use than plutonium.
Use it or lose it
