If anyone wants a perfect example of the depths to which some will descend, and the hatred and vitriol some will display in order to attempt to destroy a candidate they despise, look no further than the current hoax going around the blogosphere about the alleged tape of Michelle Obama screaming about "Whitey" while seated next to Louis Farrakhan.
This was all started by Larry Johnson on his site, No Quarter. I’m purposely not posting a link so as not to give him any more traffic.( but here's the link anyways) If you want to Google it go ahead, but I would suggest not wasting your time.
This is what he posted:
"I learned over the weekend why the Republicans who have seen the tape of Michelle Obama ranting about "whitey" describe it as "STUNNING." I have not seen it but I have heard from five separate sources who have spoken directly with people who have seen the tape. It features Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan. They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright’s Church when Michelle makes her intemperate remarks. Whoops!!"
First of all, there is no tape. This rumor has been going around for weeks with no evidence yet. It is either the "October Surprise" that the Republicans plan to spring on Obama, or the reason Hillary Clinton is hanging around, depending on which version of the lie one believes.
Secondly, this screwball is ranting about something he hasn’t even seen. Personally, I think if such a tape existed, with the desperation of the Clinton camp, we would have seen it by now.
More about Mr. Johnson. I don’t throw this term around lightly, but he is a nutjob with a capital N. Lest anyone think Johnson is a right-wing kook, a conservative website that I frequent, Sweetness & Light, has this to say about him:
"We have refrained from commenting on this preposterous rumor because it is such a transparent ploy from a man who is (in my opinion) a notorious America-hating buffoon and pathological liar."
There is a history of Johnson posted there also, where his previous statements and predictions further prove he is worthy of every word in the above sentence.

What did Beckel say?
I have the same impression of all this as the author of this blog. I think Johnson made this up at out of whole cloth and it has taken on a life of it’s own. I hope it’s not the case, but I will be shocked if we actually see anything.
So is it too soon to profit from my new line of “KILL WHY’D HE!” t-shirts? ;)
I’d still like her to answer one simple question:
When didn’t Michelle Obama use the word “Whitey”?

Considering Fox pulled the Beckel story means several things, including Obama’s people may have said pull it. They are known to cave to pressure.
Bob wrote Wait a minute. A few posts ago you were saying that she said "Why'd he..." as if you had heard her words. Are you now saying that there is no tape? (And, BTW, don't try to pull that "newbie" crap on me.) As was said earlier, you're coming off sounding like a loon, especially with the CAPS.
The vetting of Obama by the public, the Clinton campaign and the bloggers didn't start with real seriousness and visibility until Obama began steamrolling over Hillary in the primaries. The media gave him a pass, and Hillary wasn't really counting on that. Since the Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, Bernadette Dorn et al relationships emerged, Obama has been plummeting. Lost 5 primaries in a row by very large margins. If the early voters knew what they know now.... damn!
Here's my theory: The Clinton camp underestimated the Obama camp. But eventually did the math, and panicked. That's when the Clinton camp mainstreamed the stories uncovered by others about Wright, et al. Didn't wanna do it, but had to at this point. Still had the superdelegates in play, so it wasn't D-Day yet. With the superdelegates defecting, it IS D-Day now. And that is why Hillary has said she would serve as VP. Because she knows that she won't win the nomination for Pres. But if the ticket is announced, and a bombshell drops on the Obama campaign before August making him probably unelectable... voila! VP nominee has ascended to the nomination. I think that's her strategy, and a darn good one. She wouldn't think of taking 2nd place, and waiting.
I think the tape exists. Releasing it 3 wks ago wouldn't have helped her. She had already mathematically lost. She needs to secure the VP slot, then drop the bomb. Through a surrogate, of course.
My arrogance has, once again, gotten the best of me.

IF this tape exists — and it probably doesn’t — it is likely that it will be clear whether Michelle Obama said “Whitey” or “Why’d he” by considering the next word.
If the next word is “DID” or another word in the past tense, then she was saying “Whitey DID that,” not “Why’d he DID that.”
But if the next word is “DO” or another word in the present tense, then she was saying “Why’d he DO that?”
You can do the same analysis with most other verbs suggested by Obama supporters:
“Why’d he leave” v. “Whitey left”
AND (less clearly)
“Why’d he attack” v. “Whitey attacked”
If it exists, there shouldn’t be any ambiguity.
Did the tape get released today??
You tweaked a memory. When doing the compare/contrast thing with Obama, Hillary was always using the phrase "I've been vetted"...which I thought strange at the time. Vetted? Hardly. She'd been given a big time pass on her multitude of shady deals, fundraising, power grabs, etc. So why would she even want to wake that sleeping dog?
It seems clear now that she was begging the press to dig into Obama's background. You're right; she miscalculated by counting on the press to do its job.
