Fears grow that Obama can't win: White working class Democrats will defect to McCain
The Guardian ^ | June 1, 2008 | Paul Harris

With senator Barack Obama poised this week to clinch his party's nomination for President, there are growing fears in some quarters that the Democratic party may not be choosing its strongest candidate to beat Republican John McCain.

Senator Hillary Clinton has been making that argument for weeks. Now some recent polls and analysis, looking particularly at vital battleground states and support among white voters, have bolstered her case - even as Obama looks certain to become the nominee.

Obama supporters reject this argument and point to his record of boosting Democratic voter turnout, especially among the young. But sceptics in the party, already nervous about nominating Obama after the furore over outspoken pastor Jeremiah Wright, are growing increasingly concerned. 'There is an element of buyer's remorse in some areas. The question is whether it gets really strong now or in September - or even after the election is over, if he loses,' said Steve Mitchell, head of political consultancy Mitchell Research.

Another boost to Clinton's case came late last week after a pro-Obama preacher gave a race-tinged rant against her at Obama's church in Chicago. In a recent sermon Michael Pfleger - a long-term Obama backer who is white - mocked Clinton as an entitled white person angry at a black man having beaten her. His angry, red-faced speech, in which he mimicked Clinton weeping, was played repeatedly across American cable channels and the internet.

The news sent shock waves through Democratic circles; many had hoped Obama had put 'pastor problems' behind him. 'It is more of the same problem as Wright. It reinforces the image among some voters that Obama does not share their values,' said Mitchell.

I imagine that when we’re on our 63rd “recount” and 37th lawsuit in March 2009, EVERYONE will be rioting. The ‘RATS are going to want to count, prod and poke ballots until Obama Hussein is declared the winner.

This creates a wave of some sorts. There are probably seventeen states which are absolute wins for McCain today with no argument. Taking the Hillary-working class in another dozen states likely takes them over to McCain at this point. Even without winning Cal or NY...McCain has a fairly strong situation in almost thirty states today...something Obama can’t discuss. Hillary has no intention of helping Obama in the fall....unless he were to offer money to pay off the bills...which I seriously doubt that he will do so. As much as I disagree with McCain....I think this race is pretty settled.

"They're stuck with him. If the superdelegates switched back to Hillary, cities all across this nation would burn."

While whites are living in the suburbs.

They will burn if McCain wins.

Are they introducing a new generation of wide screen TV this summer?

Are you comforted, pissant, knowing that Democrats are flocking to McCain? I know I’m not. They aren’t turning to him because of his staunch record as a conservative. Because.............................

Where were they the last eight years when Pres. Bush needed their support?

I seriously doubt that. But the democrat party would be in as much trouble as the Republican party.

We better just hope the poll hold until the general election. All the people that switched party lines to vote for Obama thinking he would lose, may have just given us POTUS Obama. And he's going to be worse on military and abdicating US Sovergnty to the UN than Clinton ever thought about being.

The only saving grace this election has been the comedy between Obama and Hillary. As much as I despise Hillary, Obama is even worse of a commie. So if America rejects him and votes instead for the GOP’s retard, that’s fine with me. The retard isn’t fine, however, and my goals are the smae regardless who wins.

I think Pennsylvania may go for McCain. If so, BHMO(pbuh) has no chance whatsoever.

My 88 year old aunt who has major BDS and who has screamed against the Republicans on long distance phone calls to my mother for about 30 years is now ranting in every phone call that she is going to vote for McCain! A couple other BDS Democrat friends who regularly spout all the usual conspiracy theories are also ranting that they are voting for McCain. A far left loonie acquaintance who used every social occasion the past 7 years to rant against Bush and Republicans is strangely silent these days and says she is in a different place now with politics and just trying to stay calm. Ha!

I agree. Rush saved me with his Operation Chaos by injecting humor and mischief into this election cycle. At least it became entertaining for awhile.

Absolutely.

A cursory glance at the thousands of Youtube comments reflect the fallout of Wright, Pfleger and Obama. Most Americans do not like Al Sharpton either, and they know what to expect out of a Farrakhan-Sharpton-Obama relationship if they get their hands on the White House.

Surprisingly, most of the Youtube posts show absolute disgust for the Obama camp for hanging around these cretins.

Most Americans are angry and provoked by the mere mentioning of Obama's name right now, and I really hope it stays that way to November. I am not too sure of what the democrats feel right now, but I know that Americans don't like Obama at all.

When Americans like you post here about the democrats' "buyer's remorse" with Obama, I truly do believe it.
