S.F. schools take on racism, classism [Stalinist dumbing down of grades coming?]
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 5.28.08 | Jill Tucker

San Francisco Superintendent Carlos Garcia took a first stab at putting his mark on city schools Tuesday with a plan that pushes the district to face racism and classism head on. The district's strategic plan adopted by the school board 6-0 Tuesday night focuses on reversing the typical academic outcomes for black, Hispanic and poor students.

Are they going to handicap grades if one is a minority or poor?

Is this a version of the reason colleges are dropping SAT requirements?

Yes, your grade curve will be based on your race, intelligence, country of origin, the language you can speak, etc. Afterall, academia is just a socialist breeding ground now, concerned far more with indoctrination than education...and they must continue to look like they are generating EDUCATED students by showing good grades -— so there it is.

Grades are far more important than if the student can even read or write....nothing new really.

Will membership in the communist party be mandatory or volunteer?

So-called “classism” has been a factor of life forever. In the old days, it was an impetus to rise into that class and give your kids the advantages you didn’t have. Nowadays it is an impetus for resentment and anger and the gimme attitude. Outcome-based education has done its damage. From henceforth, all people will believe there is no such thing as class mobility in this society and that any differentiation among groups of people is inherently unfair. Parents will no longer knock themselves out to give their kids advantages they didn’t have. They will just allow the government to feed all from the same trough of awful offal. It isn’t capital D Democracy issues. It is capital S Socialist issues.

This is going to be interesting. Let’s see how long it will take to throw more taxpayer money at “inequalities” in the school system.

Tony Smith, deputy superintendent of instruction, innovation and social justice, and the plan's architect.

There's a clue!

Remember when it was about equal opportunity, and not equal outcome?

Till they face what the problem really is, they will never figure it out. All they have to do is look at one school. It doesn't matter what school. Any school. MY school.

Take a look at my Los Angeles middle school. Look at the standardized test scores. Year after year, Asians score the highest, Whites next, Blacks and Hispanics at the bottom.

Are Whites and Asians getting the best books? No, they all get the same books. Same computers. Same desks, same chairs, same lunch, same teachers. Different scores.

Racist teachers? Okay, but at least a third of our teachers are Hispanic. Are the Hispanic teachers favoring the White and Asian students? These people are like doctors who insist that chiropractic therapy will solve heart failure. They are working very very hard... but the spine is not why you're having heart failure. Till they figure it out, this is pointless.

I have a great idea Mr. Garcia. Butt out....We don’t need another stinkin plan. None of them have worked so far. In fact get out the way of families.

....so they’re going to give all minority/poor students extra points just for being that way?

Let’s see how long it takes to hire a few hundred underachievers of the appropriate classes and ethnicities to come in and draw big paychecks for misusing big words and insulting whitey.

1. Schools where kids are permitted to drop out if they CHOSE to do so are BAD schools?

2. Schools where teachers have to care enough to buy their OWN laptop are bad schools?

3. Schools where kids go who have parents successful enough to live in houses with large back yards are bad?

4. Are monoethnic, inner-city Oakland (or Bayview) schools bad schools, because they are not "fully integrated", or are those schools instead GOOD?

5. Why not score students on whether they come from traditional, intact families, and see what bearing that might have on their scores, and whether they graduate?

So schools will be graded on the "Number and percentage of students who drop out of school between grades 6-12."

OK, I take that to mean that schools where few students drop out will score high:

The natural effect in inner-cities will be horrible; instead of permitting good black kids to study in peace, teachers will focus their efforts simply on preventing drop-outs, rather than on conferring knowlege: they will be transformed into prison wardens who keep book-hating gang-bangers in class, where they will distract other ethnic kids who still want to learn.

Meanwhile, in suburban where few kids drop out the school rating will be lowered for "inadequate racial integration".

“a plan that pushes the district to face racism and classism head on.”

What the Hell is classism? Something made up in a university sociology department?

"Will membership in the communist party be mandatory or volunteer?"

It's public school. Of course it's mandatory.

So far, no urban district has bridged the achievement gap or created schools of equal quality for children regardless of their race or income.

Gee, do you suppose this universal failure could be telling us that the "achievement gap" is not caused by the schools? These children are behind on measures like vocabulary (a good measure of verbal ability) BEFORE THEY EVEN GO TO SCHOOL.

Still, a lot of them aren't nearly as clueless as these overpaid administrators.

What the Hell is classism?

It's when the Obamas look down on the rural voters who cling to their guns and religion--and shop at Walmart for iceberg lettuce instead of going to Whole Foods for arugula.
