Don't get me wrong, there were flame wars aplenty, but you knew that. ;^P

But you could also have a serious discussion in the midst of a flame war too.

Wal-Mart sells crap meat compared to the butcher I normally go to.

What Wal-Mart you go to? The one in North Korea?

Never. They're stuck on an eco tour boat locked in the ice somewhere anyway.

Wal-Mart is taking a still photograph of everyone who buys ammo, and maintaining it in a database. The cameras you are talking about are looking for thieves stealing their merchandise, mainly. There’s a huge difference between the two.

Sam’s has better buys on some things if you don’t mind buying in quantity. But Wal-Mart has a much better selection & variety.

No, actually. I have a local major grocery chain (Krogers) that serves good, but not fantastic meat, Wal-Mart which sells absolutely garbage beef and pork, and my local butcher who sells some of the best non-wild game meat I have ever cooked.

So for hamburger and ground pork and such .. Krogers. Good meat.... butcher. Everything else, Wal-Mart.

They are good for some things. But if I want higher end stuff I go elsewhere.

Precisely my point. :)

how does Wal-Mart grocery prices compare, with say Costco or Sams? Just wondering out loud here!

I don't shop Sams, but I can speak to Costco. Some months ago, I took a pad with me to Wal-Mart (where I usually shop for groceries) and to Costco. I recorded the prices on my commonly purchased items and put them into a spreadsheet for comparison. I expected the prices to be fairly similar, but Costco pretty much clobbered Wal-Mart on almost everything. The trade-off, obviously, is that you have to buy in bulk--but Costco's prices are better.

Maybe chip manufacturers should consider not blowing up 1/4 full bags with 3/4 air.

WalMart probably has the best system in place to bring them emergency supplies. I’d love to see an update picture of a WalMart helicopter dropping a WalMart shipping container full of food and water on the ice for them. lol

Just another Joe: Many members that used to discuss, dissect, and look at a lot of points of view no longer post here for what ever reason.

Many have been culled from the herd. Many have other interest. Spam wars, the odd political meanderings of this site have turned many old timers off. From one who has posted over 9,500 articles/op-eds, over 9,500 response...I now lurk but rarely participate. One only has to discern the great dichotomy of the FR mission statement versus what is actually posted/allowed on this forum. Too many nonsensical, nonpolitical threads have absconded the attention of the forum.

TigersEye: There are about 100 times as many threads per day as there were a few years ago but not 100 times as many active posters.
All so very true. In the past, I can remember telling other folks how I could pose a question regarding some obscure legal precedents, Constitutional issues, military preparedness and tens of posters would assist me in valuable links/research. Very little of that experience is evident now.

I agree. Look what they have done to the cost of prescription drugs, with their $4 prescriptions in the past year. Kudos to them!

When they introduced the prescription thing in the Tampa area ( we were first) people were almost crying in the lines they were so happy. For older people on fixed incomes it gave dignity and security.

Now they've added the "3 months (of prescriptions) for $10. And just in time.

I was shopping there a few months back and a woman asked me if I was in line. I went, "line, what line?", then noticed off in the distance the line from the pharmacy had snaked it's way back to where I was.

Almost needed binoculars to see the pharmacy. What a mess. Anyhow, the 3 month thing has fixed that...

Many thanks to Walmart - - they are a blessing.

THIS IS A LIE AND TOTAL B.S. EVERY ITEM that we purchase on our grocery list each week HAS GONE UP at our local Wal "gouge every cent" Mart. EVERY item. Our grocery bill has increased by $25 to $35 dollars per shopping trip each week. Because of our eating habits and diets we eat, we each much the same things each week. This is BS that they are holding down food prices. We have little choice as all the other grocery stores in our area have been put out of business by Wal Mart and our local store is employed by morons and imbeciles who could give a damn less about customer's service. It is the worse store that I have ever shopped in.

Too many nonsensical, nonpolitical threads have absconded the attention of the forum.

Like I said, for whatever reason.

In the past, I can remember telling other folks how I could pose a question regarding some obscure legal precedents, Constitutional issues, military preparedness and tens of posters would assist me in valuable links/research. Very little of that experience is evident now.

How very true but I think the reason is because, as you say, there are a lot of old timers that no longer put the time in on this forum.

I think one of the reasons that many have left, or been culled, is that there is not a reason pulling the members together anymore.
WJ Clinton was the initial reason, then getting the 'R's candidate elected over Al Bore, which I still think was a good thing no matter that President Bush has been a disappointment in some ways, but now, there isn't anything pulling the members together.

Just my thoughts.

I detest the whole buy from China first attitude they have but I really do appreciate what Wal-Mart does for my budget.

Considering the general low quality of the other stuff they sell I have a hard time believing that they would sell high quality food. So I prefer to spend a few bucks more for peace of mind on what I'm eating.

We could outsource the US Govt to Walmart and Sams club and save a lot of tax money.

Yeah. If you want the Chinese involved in every facet.

I shop at Walmart all the time, but am a little unsure about all the Chinese goods. For a while now, I’ve been checking all food items, toothpaste, or anything else my family ingests, and do not purchase them if they’re made in China. A lot of things are labeled as being “marketed in Bentonville Arkansas”, and I don’t purchase those items since they don’t truly say where they’re made. Most of the time, I can find items not made or packaged in China. I did notice all brands of mandarin oranges are made in China though. I don’t keep as close a watch on non-food items.
