I dunno. I watched the video and the boy was totally distracted during the interview, and that distraction starts almost immediately in the video. Sit him in a school desk for several hours and I'll bet he is disruptive in the classroom.

Teachers rarely single out a child the way this teacher did without reason. Having said that, the teacher is clearly wrong in what she did, but I would really like to hear the other side of the issues and think ABC is, once again, reporting only half the story. While they did make an attempt to talk to the teacher and school officials who declined, they could have talked with other kids in the class to get some idea of what triggered all of this.

This child is likely still too immature for a Prussian model, factory-like school setting. My advice to the parents would be to wait a few years.

When I was homeschooling my two kids, my son would start the day with two laps around the building. About and hour in, he'd start to "loose it" and he'd have to do 5-10 laps (depended on how much energy he had to burn off.) That usually got him through until lunch. Getting back on task after lunch was *very* difficult, so we usually tried to get everything done before that. If not, the only thing that worked at that point was to not let him out of the chair until his work was finished. (Eventually, he learned to get it together in order to end that "torture" as quickly as possible!)

My daughter, on the other hand, would sit down and do her work quickly and quietly. If I remember correctly, she *never* had to run laps. Not once! (I do remember having her do push-ups and squats a few times for "attitude." I also had her do jumping jacks and run-in-place a few times to "wake up"!)

I don't know of any public school that can cater to an individual's needs as well as a mom can. I highly recommend hsing for children. At least until they're in JR High or high school. (Both my kids are in public school now. My son is doing *very* well and is loving school! My daughter skipped her sophomore year and will graduate a year early! She's a senior now! ~proud mama~)

He's a five year old boy. I don't have daughters, but little girls seem to act differently. I only have sons. He seemed well enough behaved to me.

Even if he is such a terror in class, the teacher should've engaged the parents in discussion earlier over what to do, instead of putting them off. She crossed the line. She was the one who sounded ignorant, pathetic, etc. There are too many people - teachers, coaches, etc. - working with young children when they shouldn't be. Some just don't have the patience nor do they know how to speak to children in the right way. But, the system protects them, and they continue in these jobs.
